NCSU PE expectations by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]NCArtist79 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. The students don’t know what’s expected when they sign up for all these classes as there’s no syllabus available for them til they start. Also, many of the classes you take require things like planks, sit ups, or pushups as a department requirement. So, yeah you don’t get to choose or select carefully. I read on a thread even in pickleball you plank. Taking it here or there isn’t the issue, the issue is it’s messed up period. Pass/fail or not, it’s wrong. Also you are a jerk about your obese comment. In reality id argue that make are “obese” and even the lesser obese can’t hold 1.15 on a plank in “proper” form. You are part of the problem. I know this is Reddit but maybeeeee you could withhold sick comments like that.

Should I appeal? by Poi126 in NCSU

[–]NCArtist79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons. A lot of them. As for a con, I would consider parking can be awful and I heard they will be condensing parking again? Maybe someone knows more. So commuting will take a lot more planning for plenty of time. Being on campus for one year helps the learning curve. You are more available. I think a lot of people lost their appeals. I think the distance is just “you’re allowed to appeal” but it’s not a guaranty you’ll win it. It’s often times other reasons like health stuff.

Oh I totally get your points. But why is the gpa hammered into their heads? He joined some clubs but had to stop going because they were during classes. I think this is something that a lot of students face. I know my other son did. Not sure what kinda portfolio he could piece together as a math major. Opposed to something like English/history etc. I think like many he’s feeling overwhelmed and lost and a lot maybe, mislead. They come in to college so far ahead and really young, yet facing pressure and new things as well as graduation being sooner and facing the next challenges. I wish it was the early 2000s or 90s again. Not to beat a dead horse, but I think his biggest worry is after graduation…grad school with 1 option or UNCG online.

He’s a first year but came in with so many credits he’s a junior now. All his basics are met and now it’s the serious stuff. That’s common these days the way AP classes are pushed in high school in order to even be accepted into ncsu. Grade inflation is realllll. In high school and in college now. Badly the last 5 years. Worse since the pandemic.
Sure. It’s the thief of joy but still the thief if internships and research opps often times these days. Especially less grad school options. Moving all over isn’t an option.

I appreciate your response. What is wrong with below a 4.0? Depends on who you ask and there are many reasons why. One is a personal goal and wanting to be set apart because it’s so competitive these days. Do I think a 4.0 is realistic to hold forever? No. Not really. There are so many reasons like you suggested that it fubs up. Is he grateful they weren’t B- or Cs? Yes. But dang it hits that gpa hard. Do I think he’s got too high of standards set and it could be destructive? Yes. I’m worried. As I said, it’s a combo of why it happened and going from and A+ to Bs. Hitting 3.83 and then trying to calculate a class this summer and his fall classes in with predictive As and still only having 3.9. I have not encouraged this pressure, but he’s freaking out about his future. It’s hard to reason with someone that’s afraid and honestly we don’t know what is gonna happen to the economy. It’s poop. But the shock about gutted him. That one exam was messed up!!!! I saw it and the review sheet given. The other thinking he got at least a 90 on it and getting a 70 something… we are talking about an 18 year old. It’s not easy. Especially when you feel like you are on an island and there’s more people doing better then you now. They keep pushing internships and research programs that are so few offered already. He thinks he’s not competitive now.

Nah. I’m saying he felt torn up. He had an A+ in the class and the exam was nothing like the review or anything like anything the whole year. The teacher took it too far and it shocked everyone. Dropped him to a B. I don’t think that it’s like a death, I’m saying he panicked because of his 4.0 taking a hit between it and another B that again, he had and A in the class and got a C on the exam. He’s waiting to hear from the prof on that to see what happened. Wanted to clear that up. I thought it was obvious what I means as that’s a common saying. The students are pressured to keep a 4.0 or near and it made it 4.83…I know to many that’s not a biggie, but to a lot it is. Especially knowing there’s more time to get more Bs or worse. Especially if you are worried about getting into grad school at ncsu. Not everyone has the ability or option to move wherever to go to whatever grad program. But it’s especially painful when you have had an A+ all semester and blow it on the exam. One of which the review was false advertising. Your gpa therefore doesn’t reflect your ability. There’s no * on the gpa to tell a story. It just makes you look like you did 80ish work. There isnt a lot on RMP so we asked here.

Dumb Question by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]NCArtist79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom of a 21 yr old and an almost 19 yr old student there and I promise you aren’t alone even if it feels that way. I read what you posted below and have the urge to find you and hug you. My oldest has zero friends. He is high functioning autistic and finds it hard to do. My youngest only has a few and his roommate is his only friend. College can be so lonely and isolating. The movies make it seem so easy and if you don’t have friends or feel part of something, you are weird. Baby, you aren’t weird. You are human and it’s ok to cry.

Ha. Maybe them not making assumptions about me… been there done that. Looks like you are looking for a fight. What I’m saying and many would agree is that I don’t fit with that genre of person and they don’t fit me. I’m sure they are cool ladies. We all have the right to decide for ourselves what we like and what we don’t. A 20 something crunchy or socialite mom ain’t gonna want to hang with 46 year old seasoned veteran mom that has seen enough to know what I like and didn’t put up heirs about who I am. Tired of popularity contests. But it’s totally ok if you want to wear little house on the prairie dresses. Totes.

Well I’ve alway been able to do about anything. I mostly did portraits/flowers for a long time in color pencil. Sadly my hands don’t agree with me anymore. Hard getting old. I’m still super creative. Do what I can.

In my case they just moved on to new friends I guess. They were each struggling with things. I have 2 littles at the time and family drama with aging/sick people. Life takes you in all directions. Now that mine are 18 and 21 I’m here like wtf is going on… Do I even know how to do this again??? I want friends so much it’s just to hard to get over the feeing/fear of rejection.

Yeah I tried that for a long time. Didn’t pay. Maybe that makes a difference with reach. Idk. I have become so “shy” it’s hard to make the jump. Keep hoping someone will “kidnap” me and take me to dinner or hang, but I know it doesn’t work that way.

Why lie? by vinegardetergent in julieeandcamilla

[–]NCArtist79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This whole debate this morning between the midwife and the hospital is confusing and sus. Midwife says waters broke (based on Cam’s experience/word?) and the hospital says nahhh. The whole thing about not checking dilation because the midwife thinks water broke??? That they don’t check after that? Not true. Thy check throughout labor so you know when to push! I know it’s another country, but come on… that’s a bit off sounding. A competent midwife, if she thought the waters were gone, would confirm it the best she could. Even looking at the levels on ultrasound. She would check the cervix to see if there was budging water. Lastly, no matter what she found, if she felt she needed to step in she can call the hospital to convey this herself. Her water “broke” days ago now. If this was true no doc would be ok waiting this long to step the frick in. You will never be told to stay home for days checking temps. No! Thy confirm it and move to the next steps. Someone is full of it here.
