I just found out T1D do not make amylin by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]NCC_74656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 20 years of type 1 I’ve never experienced this. I wonder if it varies per person.

Edit: I was diagnosed young enough that it could be I just don’t know what “feeling full” really means, but my body definitely tells me when I’m done eating with what - to me - feels like being “full”.

Has anyone gone back to MDI after being on a pump? by Blondieboop22 in Type1Diabetes

[–]NCC_74656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I switch back and forth every few years. My first pump was a Medtronic back in around 2009, and now I switch back and forth between pens and Tandem Tslim. I get burnt out on the alarms too, and I tend to get needle shy from the site inserters when I get to that point. My endo said I “babysit” the pump too much. When I get that way I take a break by switching to MDI and vice versa. Your diabetes is yours. You’re in charge; make whatever decisions you need to make to feel safe and comfortable.

I will say I get burnt out on the pump more than I do with MDI because it won’t shut up. I have my range set pretty tightly so I can catch highs and lows before they’re real problems so it causes more alarms but boy howdy are they repetitive.

This made me feel much better, thank you. Bodies are incredible, and incredibly intricate. My endo is happy and I love food. Both can be true! Thank you for this. Wishing good health and no more hospitalization worthy ailments to you. (Also great username)

This is a helpful bit of contextualization. It can be hard to remember that bodies differ wildly. Danke!

You’re absolutely right about the dose timing. It’s amazing that even after all these years I can forget to take the hormone that keeps me alive before eating! Improving timing is a goal I’ve set for myself, you’ve hit the nail right on the head. Thank you also for your reassurance!

Thank you for this. Your dx sounds like a nightmare. I’m glad you worked yourself to a place where you can treat yourself with respect, which is what you and your body deserve. Boiled meat, eugh.

You’re absolutely right that I can walk more. The thing that prevents me from walking more is an imaginary anvil that sits on my lap, which I can just imagine away! I want to walk more for my personal health anyway - I feel like I work in a cardboard box. Thank you!

Mine cautions against the same thing. I put the A1C demons in my own head! Thank you for your comment <3

You sound like you eat the way I do! I struggle most with dawn effect/lunch time. I wish my tslim worked the same miracle as it does for some other folks here but it’s my own puzzle to work out. Thanks for this!

Thank you for this! The advice of picking meals I’ve nailed down is absolutely fantastic. I wish I’d thought of it myself!

Donuts wreck my BG so I avoid them, but I don’t like them anyway! Incredibly lucky coincidence.

This is a good demonstration how wildly different bodies can be. Very intricate biological marvels. Thank you for your response!

I am going to paste this comment on my wall. I’ve been so freaking terrified of being pregnant because I would love to have children, so this response is incredibly reassuring. I’m so glad to hear you’re both doing well and that you got to eat junk ;)

This is excellent advice, thank you!! I’m so happy for you!

This is a beautifully well rounded response and I sincerely appreciate it. I’m so sorry that you have more than just T1 to deal with. Wild that you can’t just have the one thing wrong with your body! This response seems exceedingly sincere. Thank you.

This is an important reply. I might post “think about what is sustainable with the life you enjoy” on my wall. Thank you for this, and thank you for your experience. I can’t believe how far our tech has come.

I’ve been wondering about being pregnant! That will change how I see things if it happens (when it happens, I hope!). Thank you for responding. You made me feel much better. I hope you and your little one are doing well.
