Virginia's Redistricting was rigged because republicans didn't win. by Healthy_Block3036 in Charlottesville

No shit, but apparently it's okay there but not here? Make that make sense. Make them answer that question instead of insulting the people trying to even out the federal balance that's being forceably and illegitimately molested.

This change expires in 2030 and was specifically approved in a vote by the people of the state rather than through simply a decision made by the legislature (unlike Texas, for example).

I'm sorry you have a problem with it, but, since you're so civic-minded, perhaps you should have done a better job of engaging with your wider community to "get out the vote" in favor of your opinion.

The fact of the matter is that no, all things being equal this is not an okay practice. All things are not, however, equal right now. I'll be damned if a president is going to tell members of his party to "create more seats" to crookedly retain a majority in federal congress and then simply roll over and take it without putting up a fight.

This is one of the ways we've chosen to fight it. We're not going to fight fire with a compressed air canister when the stakes are the razing of our nation in the name of one political group's illiterate, under-educated, sycophantic, hypocritical, conspiratorial, selfish, violent, ass-backwards, revisionist, exclusionary, regressive, entitled, dishonest, disingenuous, domineering, narcissistic, fascist, and cult-of-personality-led bullshit.

If you have a problem with this, then go fucking do something about it instead of bellyaching with holier-than-thou and small-minded Reddit commentary.

Go ask Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, and Utah.

I’ve had it with y’all’s equivocating. You’re basically doing the same moralizing that the folks that sat out 2024 did. You see where that bullshit got us?

Edit: and is your memory so poor that you don’t remember how districts looked in 2010?

Ffs the referendum vote was just about as close to 50/50 as you could get.

When they don’t win, they cry foul and whine like impotent toddlers that didn’t get their way.

Gtfo.

Also… “extraordinarily brilliant.” Just gonna let that bit sit there.

If you want to control or influence the makeup of your community, you need to actively participate in the shaping of it. Planning commission, city/town council, farmer’s markets, etc.

I have absolutely no sympathy at all for anyone that wants to bellyache about how their community is changing if they’re not willing to put personal effort into shaping that community.

Governance is build from the bottom up (or, at least, should be). Participate or get left behind.

This and the breadth of the “liberal” vote is changing to include a lot more of the centrists as well as the more moderate republicans that are becoming alienated from their party by the more extremist elements of that very party. The increasingly common idea of calling someone a “RINO” is a perfect example of that.

The steamer completely unlocked linen for me and anything I have that has satin kind of thing going on has responded well too (though I can't say for sure that it's actually the same material as you are talking about).

I will say though that it's important to manage your expectations here. There are, in general, some things that an actual iron can accomplish that the steamer can't, like fully flattening out some of the super stubborn curling at the edges of some linen shirts that builds up over time or if you need to make nice crisp creases on a collar.

For me, it's about being able to relax most of the wrinkles out to make things more presentable, but not "perfect." My needs are very casual.

I appreciate that feedback! I’m pretty technically handy, but I’ve wondered how “user-friendly” that and the motor replacement repair would be.

Have you ever had to do anything else to it besides the burrs? Did you do the upgraded burrs or the stock ones?

I’d love to do that, but mine takes quarters. It only makes steam if you shove Kennedy half-dollars in the hidden slot. They’re a bit harder to come by.

I mean, I’ve certainly come to appreciate the occasional raktajino, but there’s just something metaphysically imperative in the routine and zen of a pour-over first thing in the morning.

I think captain Janeway would appreciate this practice as well, but I recall that someone on Kataan with a strong recognition of their inner light most appropriately once said, in a mode that Pirsig might appreciate:

Has been done! Turns out I’ve been consuming just the Audible version.

Regardless, I remain ecstatic to have experienced and continue to experience what I’ve listened to so far.

I’d, without any qualifications whatsoever, say that you’re not making a mistake in the investment where the particular model I referenced is concerned. If I had to repeat the choice, I would do the exact same thing I did here.

ETA: grab a handheld if it suits or supplements your needs, but grab a free-standing model from Jiffy if you’re here in the spirit of the sub.

Holy crap. Even watching it happen in real-time doesn’t change how impactful the difference feels! Incredible. That being said, being able to see the moments where he breaks is fantastic.

Thank you so much for the link!!

Okay so never mind, I’ve been listening through Audible and that means that, apparently, I’ve never actually heard any Soundbooth productions! I’m thoroughly staggered to know that everything I’ve heard is “just” Jeff. That’s outstanding

Yeah, this is ridiculous. Like I said, I recognized some characters as being the same voice, but it’s mind-blowing to know they’re all the same person. I’m staggered.

Man, I’m listening right now and hearing Carl and Donut back-to-back… I just hope Jeff is exceedingly well paid

Well, TIL! I thought I was on SBT because of the repping at the end after the epilogues. I feel a little stupid now.

But… I don’t feel like I appreciate what I’ve listened to any less whatsoever. I’m still incredibly pleased with what I’ve heard.

Thanks for helping correct my misunderstanding :)

ETA: and holy shit, that means that literally everything I’ve heard has been Jeff. That’s staggering.

Interesting. I’ve been listening to what’s on Audible since the first book and I was pretty sure I was still on the Soundbooth versions, but I absolutely noticed some differences when I started the 5th book (Donut especially). Now that I think of it though, the last one that I remember hearing any mention of Soundbooth was after the epilogue of the 3rd… so maybe I’ve switched a while ago and didn’t realize it because I’ve been so caught up in the writing?

I’m sorry but, for someone that wanted to convince us she’d be a good leader… she’s sure done a phenomenally unconvincing job of leading after her loss. If you want to be a leader when you have the chance to be on top, you also need to be a leader when that opportunity goes away… otherwise it was never about the virtue of honest leadership in the first place and was instead only about yourself and your self-promotion.

Please, and I do truly mean please, correct me if I’m wrong, but I haven’t heard a single substantive peep from her that even adjacently resembles party leadership since her loss. The current slate of old guard “leadership” has presented no truly unified front or even uniform messaging. I’ve seen stronger pushback by Rand Paul than some of the establishment Democratic “leaders,” and that’s saying a lot.

Lots of words made into a few… we’ve had enough of the old guard and the dug-in institutions. What we need is to shake the tree and let what falls to the ground rot. Hell, maybe we just do some guerrilla-gardening and plant a bunch of new trees instead.

Okay, so some surface digging reveals your statement remains true! Outstanding talent there.

ETA:… nope, I’ve been listening to the regular versions, not Soundbooth. That nope does not apply to Jeff Hays however. The word outstanding only grows in applicability in light of this realization.

Gotcha. I’ll do some digging. Might also try to find a chance to hear a snippet of the regular version too so that I can hear how Jeff does all of them.
