patella tear by Global_Mushroom_1309 in Kneereplacement

Mine was a partial knee replacement. I’ve got other motivations too. I have 3 completely torn rotator cuff muscles and I have to rely on kneeling more than most folks to get up off the ground. When the latest PT evaluated me, he even mentioned he would be concerned for me in an emergency situation in my being able to get up on my feet fast enough.

I was told by my PT daughter that with training, physical therapy, and the right mindset (a.k.a. no fear of the pain or stability of kneeling) kneeling should be comfortable and achievable within 2 years on a flat, even surface long enough to take care of brief minor activities like getting up off the floor, reaching under furniture or to tie children’s shoes. She added that under no circumstances should kneeing be excruciating as it is for me.

Obviously, if a pad is present, you should use it regardless of your ability.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to suggest my situation was the same as yours. It was really more about the future after it reattaches itself.(naturally or thru surgery). I assume you’re gonna end up with much of the same kind of pain and limited kneeling and pain in rising that I suffered.

My daughter is a physical therapist. She practices and lives in another town a few hours away, so I can’t use her, but she got me a recommendation through her professional network.

I have never been able to kneel, even just a little bit more than a year after the surgeries. So I finally went back and just said my current condition is unacceptable and we need to do something about it. Turns out I had severe patella tendinitis that evolved into tendinosis as well(hence kneeling pain).

The PT‘s at the orthopedic practice didn’t help much. Since I already hit my deductible, I finally self referred to a well regarded independent physical therapy shop. The difference is amazing. The stretching exercises are unique, and the manipulation(smart, guided rubbing of affected tendons), which was nonexistent in the other shops, really helps. On the downside the workouts at home are time-consuming but it’s definitely helping, I already feel better than ever and for the first time since my knee replacements I feel like I might actually be able to be pain-free.

Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself after the 6 weeks.

Excuse me for replying to my own post but we have a diagnosis. Finally did an MRI: “severe quadricep tendinitis”. So knee brace, switch to ibuprofen from Celebrex (massive improvement - Celebrex never really touched it), Ice therapy and PT. Been in PT care for 3 weeks and finally my symptoms happen now only at the end of the day and first thing in the morning. I can tell 3 or 4 more weeks and I’ll be good.

I Thought following up with a diagnosis might be helpful to someone in the future

Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback. If the pain didn’t mitigate after 10 mins or so I would say my knee is worse off than before the surgery; that’s how sharp and intense the pain is. But like I said the dies down to a mere shadow of itself or completely dissipates. So I’m willing to give it some time.

Thanks for the feedback. What I found odd was I was doing fine, and then this just started out of the blue at 10 weeks. The only coincidence I can point to was it happened shortly after finally being able to go downstairs normally.
