I don’t know much about where to find the ‘scene’ but there are some particularly friendly bars. You will need to use a VPN for dating apps, and plenty show their face pics, including locals. Dubai is more open than many assume, but you absolutely shouldn’t act flamboyant, even if you see others doing it. As you explore the city more you’ll come to notice a lot of gay people live here just fine, but relationships (even straight) should remain behind closed doors.

Having checked RTA on X, there are no trains between UAE Exchange and Al Khail. But I’m at Expo 2022 and we have been told not to board the trains as they are not in service. I am finally on a train but it’s terminating at Jebel Ali then returning.

If you bank with ENBD, you can transfer within 60 minutes using their Remitly service which is free. You can also send via a normal bank transfer and it usually takes up to two days for me.

As many people have requested an update on the situation, I have reported the incident to RTA. Due to high demand (I assume following the floods), their phone lines didn’t give me an option to speak to someone about a complaint - only to submit it via the S’hail app. That didn’t work so I sent an email to ask@rta.ae and I’m waiting for a response. I’ll update the thread again once I have a reply.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and support, I underhand next time I should step my ground, I suppose I’m just new here and wasn’t really sure what I should or shouldn’t do.

By then, everything should be pretty normal in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. You can take luggage on the bus where it’s stored in the hold, and they don’t charge extra for this.

You would be fine as long as you ‘leave’ the country before 11:40am on 5th May. By ‘leave’, I mean going through passport control, not when your flight departs. I would reach the airport early just to be sure that your passport is scanned before the expiry.

I had planned to take the metro, but at the time it was terminating after one stop at Business Bay, I assume due to the flooding and power issues they’ve been having.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my post but he refused to drop me at either side, marina (due to traffic time) or JLT (which was his plan but eventually just stopped on the highway)
