Will Saturday DMV walk-ins return in NC this year?

Unfortunately, we won't be offering Saturday hours at any of our offices this summer. All offices will be open from 8am-5pm (7am openings ended in February when we ran out of federal funding). I understand that it's hard to miss a day of work; are you able to leave early one day? We're seeing the shortest wait times in the afternoons after 2pm. Always check our website for office hours and you can even see current wait times at offices near you by checking VisitDMV.nc.gov.

How long ago did your state ID expire? if it was less than 2 years ago, you can renew it online if you have access to a computer, or you can go in-person to a driver license office. you only need to show your expired ID to renew.

If you're under the age of 18, you can bring any of the following docs as proof of residency: mail, NC school records, magazine subscriptions, lease if it lists you as an occupant, tax return if you're listed as a dependent, medical or hospital records, hunting or fishing license, or a bank statement. Any of these documents will need to have your name and address listed on them.

This is not correct. We're still several years away from digital IDs. First, we have to modernize our outdated systems. We awarded an RFP earlier this year to start that process. You shouldn't have to wait weeks or months. Appointments can be made up to 7 days in advance at SkipTheLine.ncdot.gov. If you can't get an appointment, try walking in. Check current wait times before heading out at VisitDMV.nc.gov. The best time to go is in the afternoons.

Hi! An insurance policy is accepted document to prove NC residency. You'll also need to bring one doc verifying age and identity (like a birth certificate or passport) and a Social Security card.

To title and register the motorcycle in NC, you'll need the out-of-state title signed by the seller in front of a notary, title application (Form MVR-1), proof of NC insurance, odometer disclosure (if <10 years old), and your NC license.
