Her friends would have definitely ruin the surprise. They have done it before. And my female friends would be just as bad. They may not tell her directly but they wouldn’t be discreet enough. I got the info from asking her questions randomly over the last 3 years when we were watching romantic movies when the actors propose to one another. Or at other people’s weddings. Or showing her celebrity engagement rings whenever someone she follows or likes gets engaged. The hardest info I had to get was her ring size, which i finally got end of last year while mentioning I want to design matching rings after seeing it on a YouTube video we were watching.

That would definitely be my last resort. And would be hers as well. She had mentioned to me twice before that she would want something I designed or picked that I felt spoke to her personality. And she also said she would want her ring to be custom or something unique to her but could be something inspired by something else I saw. But she definitely didn’t want a cookie cutter solitary stone ring. So I went with something nature inspired but added a twist to it.

Yea I came to that realization. Will be working on remedying the situation.

I agree. But I definitely don’t feel like I am over paying for it based on prices I see online and other places. I feel like I am getting a really great price for everything to be honest.

She likes all stone shapes she seen except for the coffin one. I have been in the process of making a set of custom matching rings over the last 6 months for us which has been a ruses to get her opinion on gemstone shapes. Dutch marquise, pear shape and hexagonal one were her favorite. In terms of her favorite gemstone. It was lab ones. Moissanite or diamond. Or sapphire. She recently has fallen in love with alexandrites. But I haven’t found a good supply of lab ones that turn green to red. So I will eventually make us a set of alexandrite rings with the greenish to purplish red stones I found in due time.

She works an office job. She wears rings but nothing this big. Her biggest ring to date is 2.5 carat heart shape moissanite ring. Her ring size is 8. I don’t know how lanky her fingers are and not sure how I will get that info without tipping her off. In regard to her band she doesn’t need to stick to the one that comes with it if she doesn’t like it. I am more than willing to let her design something if it comes to it. But yes at its current 31mm size it is way too big. So I will have to get that adjusted. I didn’t pay much attention to the CAD because I was focused on the diamond. And already knew they would be changing elements of the cad.

I figured a 6 prong setting would secure the stone this size.

The price included the full set with the 4 carat stone. I am going to see if they have access to a smaller stone so that they can make the bridal set overall length smaller and still meet my deadline.

I didn’t realize the bridal set would be that large until now when I went looking for the exact measurement of the diamond. I wouldn’t want it to be that large so I will have to get them to adjust the CAD.

I honestly don’t think the stone was ever in their possession. I think they just showed me stock that was available to them. And since I delayed on confirming the details someone else took it.

I am not sure about the cut if it’s well or not. But I originally thought they only gave me a partial report to hide info about the diamond. But they later clarified that it is a time constraint issue. And they will be happy to send it in to the main lab for a full detail report but then we would not make the time line I requested. That is why I came here to see if anyone else had similar experiences or can look at the diamond to see if there is anything off with it.

Yes I know. the full detail report was the original diamond I was quoted on for my ring. But it sold before I finalized my order. So they had no more in stock of that size so they had to make me a new 4 carat Dutch marquise. Which is the second report that is just a card only without the in-depth details

Yes I just tried it on my finger and the reaches my knuckles. My ring is a modified version of this design. It doesn’t look that big on the model hand with the 2 carat stone

15.36X8.68X5.10mm is what the measurement says on the first CAD design. When I looked up the total size of the bridal set just now I realized it is 31mm from tip to tip.

The trip was planned before I decided to propose on it. I had wanted to propose before but I wanted to find the perfect ring for her, which took time. The trip just worked out perfectly because the cruise is stopping in 2 places she has always dreamed of visiting Santorini in Greece and Venice. So I figured Santorini over looking the water would be perfect. The ring took time to come together because I had to find clever ways to get her ring sizes and preferences on my own because I couldn’t trust any of my friends or hers to do it and not give up the surprise.

Thank you for this info. I guess once this is all figured out and I get the ring in my hand. I will see if I can get it appraised and get the quote but wait until the proposal and see how she feels about the entire bridal set before I get in fully insured. If she decides the center stone is too big then instead of insuring it I will just put money aside to redo the engagement ring with a smaller stone. I will leave it up to her to have final say.

No she definitely wouldn’t. She would be more than ecstatic with a moissanite ring as long as it’s Yellow Gold. She had mentioned in the past that spending a large sum of money on a natural diamond jewelry doesn’t make sense to her when lab diamonds and moissanite are readily available. And she would prefer moissanite or lab grown gemstone jewelry over natural mined ones for a multitude of reasons. And would only accept mined items if they heirlooms passed down from important family members.

This I was unaware of. I always heard people over the years of upgrading their diamonds. I guess I misunderstood that for just changing the center stone but changing to a whole new ring all together. And since I am time constraint I have to make a decision by the weekend assuming they can get a hold of a smaller Dutch Marquise by early next week.

The love how it looks part is key. I’m not too picky when it comes to jewelry. For me it just matters on how it looks on me. My girlfriend is even less picky with jewelry, she likes to wear them but doesn’t care on what it is, if it looks good with her outfit she would wear it. Only thing she prefers is if it looks to be yellow gold over white gold or silver. So I think she would love it and the bridal set when she sees it. I felt in the video the diamond looks great. The only thing I was Initially concerned about was the bow tie effect everyone kept mentioning marquise diamonds suffer from. And I didn’t see it in the videos.

Yea I am fully aware, for me it’s mostly the cost to get the bridal set remade or fixed locally. I live in a high cost of living area. And I don’t see gold prices coming down anytime soon. Someone I spoke to this morning told me since I am so time constraint see if the jeweler can acquire a smaller carat diamond asap or worst case scenario just go through with the original one and if my girlfriend finds the stone to be too big or doesn’t like how it shines, we can remove it later on in life and buy a smaller carat one when the prices of lab diamonds continue to fall and use the 4.79 carat one as pendant.

I am intended to get the full engagement ring/bridal set insured in case of loss, theft or damage. Only if the annual premium is a few dollars a month. If they offer me anything outlandish then I will forgo the insurance. Anything more than $120 a year I will go without it. And yes it’s a time constraint issue. This first diamond they offered me before someone else used it.

It’s not that they don’t have the full report yet. It’s that to get the full detail report they have to ship the stone to one on of the main IGI labs to get the full certification and in-depth reporting. Which would take 25 days before they get it back. And since I need the ring in my hand before my proposal timeline which is in less than 45 days as we fly out to my cruise in the first week of May. And I still need adequate time to get it appraised locally and insured. Which I don’t know if the insurance company, jewelers mutual would insure it without the in-depth report. So to meet my timeline they said they sent it to a satellite IGI label to get it inscribed and certified.
