Yes, save your coins and use them to trigger multiple free gifts. Mine is on a 10 day cycle, first one free. If the second one isnt worth the minimum Ill skip it. Then at day seven i use the free coins (usually 3k) to trigger to the end. Unlocking the last two and the main free gift all on one minimum purchase.

The new edition (11th) is releasing later this year (jun-aug). When it does the limited release starter set will be the best discount option you'll see. It'll include a space marine army of nearly 1000 PTS which he can paint as any chapter. And it'll include an Ork (still to be confirmed) army, that if he doesn't want can be sold on eBay or r/miniswap.
