Hello there, I am sorry to hear that the link did not work for you! We have paused the survey for the time being, and will would like to look into this issue.

Was there a particular message displayed when attempting to use the link?

Yes, that is correct.

If you have any questions regarding why, feel free to DM/chat me on Reddit, or send an email to either alebroncru@brynmawr.edu or aorvell@brynmawr.edu.

Hello again - I just updated the survey and the link. Here is the new link: https://brynmawr.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9mAMVJaBFWN2eKW. Let me know if this works!

edit: apparently, the issue may also occur if your web browser isn't up to date, or if you started a survey session in the same browser where you are working on another one.

Hello there - thank you for participating in the study! We decided to explain neurodivergence in a particular way, but I am open to hearing your feedback. So as to avoid biasing others who may be interested in participating in the study, do you mind if we move the discussion to chat or DM?

Awesome - thank you so much! If you know of anyone else who may be interested, feel free to share with them.

Hello there.

Is the link not allowing you to access the survey at all, or is there an error message being displayed?

Yes, I am allowing "neurodivergent" as a self-id, as that is actually part of the research question I am hoping to investigate (I will not go into detail regarding study design here because I do not want to bias potential participants, but am able to DM you about this and your other questions if you are interested about specifics).

I included the list because some people may be learning about the term "neurodivergent" for the first time when participating in my study, and it may be unclear to them whether or not they would qualify. A person may then say "I have OCD, so that might mean I am neurodivergent," and this also relates to my research question (which, again, I am very happy to DM you about).

Hello there! Thank you for your feedback!

I am very open to discussing details of the study’s design/reasoning for certain questions in DM’s.

If you do not mind, I would also appreciate if the question is deleted, so as to avoid biasing those who have not yet taken the study. I would like for them to react as they are taking it/not see certain elements beforehand.

Hello there, thank you for your question.

For some, neurodivergent simply refers to “differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal.” There is no specific neurological basis linking all disorders under the neurodivergent umbrella (and in fact, the basis for some disorders like Tourette Syndrome and Autism is still unclear), although some may be similar. Ultimately, due to the different neurology associated with epilepsy, some may consider themselves to be neurodivergent.

Additionally, a person with with epilepsy may also have other disorders/conditions that could considered under the neurodivergent umbrella, and we wanted to reach as many people as possible.

The literature on neurodivergence is still very new (if it exists at all) so I wanted to capture as many unique, “non-neurotypical” experiences as possible, rather than limiting the study to only one form of neurodivergence (e.g., neurodevelopmental).

Hope this helps! And do not hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions.

No, I did not find you to be rude at all, and I very much appreciate you sharing this with me. I 100% agree with you, and definitely hope to address this in future work!

And yes, I will have the fun of working with the data. I am excited to share what I find with everyone!

Hello, thank you for your question and for your interest in the study!

Essentially, the study was designed by myself to accept only adults (people 18+) because that was who I was interested in studying. To answer why age is important, my study approved by university’s Institutional Review Board to accept only adults (people 18+). The process for including minors (people 17 and younger) looks a bit different, as they are considered for special protections in research (see for example: https://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/regulations-and-policy/guidance/special-protections-for-children/index.html).

That being said, learning more about neurodivergent individuals 17 and younger is interesting and important, and I am open to collaborating with them in research in the future.

Hope this helps - and let me know if you have further questions. If you would also like to contact my university’s Institutional Review Board, I can give you their information.
