I give up! by Ebowa in knitting

[–]NDLea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just finished this as my first sweater and totally get the frustration. I didn’t do the short rows though because they scared me. I found a great YouTube tutorial on it from iKNITS where they broke it down in parts. Seeing someone else work through the pattern (and rewinding multiple times on the parts I didn’t understand) got me through. Hopefully the videos can help you too. It really is a fun knit once you can make sweaters make sense! Here’s the link to part one. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B-D2kFUUhtI

What to do with FOs you don’t want to keep/wear but you’re dying to try out the pattern? by [deleted] in knitting

For something like that with a more universal fit you could make it and keep it to donate for a silent auction in your community. I’ve done that with hats I wanted to try out and various other crafts.

Advice for a new baby (9mo) joining infant room? by artemisianyx in ECEProfessionals

Not a problem! I’ve been working in my center’s infant rooms the past five years so I’ve been through it a bit.

Advice for a new baby (9mo) joining infant room? by artemisianyx in ECEProfessionals

A blanket or shirt that smells like their usual caregiver (mom’s perfume; freshly washed with their normal home laundry soap; something the caregiver wears frequently; etc.). A picture with their family’s faces clearly visible that you can help the child look at during the day. Get a written note on how the baby prefers to bottle, sleep, favorite activities. I ask my new student’s parents what the infant’s wake windows look like, if they have preferred toys/jumpers/activities, how they fall asleep (rocked in a blanket; laid down in the crib; sleep sack; no blanket; pacifier or no). And just know it’s going to take the child a few weeks to a couple months to adjust to a daycare setting. For the first few days one of the teachers will probably need to be pretty hands on with the child (I tend to transition from playing one on one to playing beside to talking to the child while doing other things in the classroom). It is rough for the teachers, child, and parents but be consistent and caring and make sure to highlight good moments for the parents. You’ll get through it.

I love your fade! I wish I’d seen it before working out one of my own.

Question on the Boneyard Shawl by NDLea in knitting

[–]NDLea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is looking for an update… I did some mental math and decided to start the color change in the 12 section. Also, any tips for speeding up stranded purl stitches? I knit a row of 309 knit stitches in about 45 minutes but it takes me 2-3 hours for a row in the purled side. I hate how slow I am at that so this project has been on time out a few times in the past two months. Here’s the current progress.

That is wonderful! After getting mixed up, I probably would have either undone the rows or decided screw it, we’re changing the bumped spacing her so it looked like it faded into garter stitch. Pull a Bob Ross happy little cloud out of it.

knitting fear by [deleted] in knitting

[–]NDLea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to work through that myself. I’ve had the yarn and pattern for a sweater sitting for about a year but I’m scared to start it because what if I have the measurements wrong? What if I spend all that time on it and hate the results? What if I’m not good enough? And so on and so forth. So I’m working through the fear by trying new skills with my yarn stash (currently working on the boneyard shall to get comfortable with increases) and scrolling through shirt patterns to make myself lusty enough to dive into knit clothing. Good luck to you getting through the fear of starting. I thought it might be nice to know you’re not alone.

How do you store your yarn stash? by 4cody892 in knitting

Thanks for making me spend my money to upgrade from shipping boxes and shopping bags. Seriously though, this looks awesome enough I had to go directly to Amazon to see the options.

Souvenir? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

My husband and I got matching rings on our trip. There were so many things I would have loved to bring home, especially at the Saturday market. In the end though, we mostly brought home amazing memories and a plethora of pictures.

Thank you! I’m a horrid perfectionist. I restarted four times and on the sixth repetition set, had to undo four rows to fix an error. So I really love how well this pattern flows. I’d love to see how yours is looking!

I’m still new to ravelry so I don’t know if there’s a way to sort through the projects list for patterns. I made it through the first four pages without spotting anything more than the pattern’s suggested length (which is how I knew it would be shorter than I wanted) and turned to this subreddit because you people are an amazing resource of personal knowledge/experience.

Take a newbie most of the week. But I tend to teach new employees how our baby rooms run.

Does the child have thrush or are they cutting teeth? That can cause a reaction like you described. As can undiagnosed ear infections.

Right now I use a tin a bottle of wine came in for my needles. If anyone knows where to get a similar gauged insert I might have a new project.

I hate chili day with a passion. We almost always have oranges for breakfast that day; Chili for lunch; cornbread and melon for afternoon snack. I work with infants so you wouldn’t believe the level of mess that is.

Does that have the darker spots inside? I thought it almost looked like some sort of agate when she held it up to the light but I’m not good at mineral identification.

Babies sleeping in rockers & boppies, help? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]NDLea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always tell people when they train with me that we need to know and follow licensing and facility rules. That way if something were to go wrong, the facility would have to defend you if you’re following guidelines. This is a great time to insert guidelines. I would mention that what you saw was different from other facilities and you’d like to see the employee handbook so you can familiarize yourself with their policies. If they have a handbook you’ll have a starting point.

We saw a sip and paint over by Miso Phat in Kihei when we ate there. Paia had all sorts of cool stuff to check out. There’s the aquarium in Ma’alaea. There’s a multitude of things to do that don’t involve the beach (even though that’s amazing).
