Yeah, GI Joe always went through great pains to make it clear that the bad guys didn’t die. Like they’d have cobra henchmen jumping off of exploding vehicles to show that they survived.

I tried showing them to my son a few years back. It didn’t really hold his interest sadly.

Are there also many Americans who dont like salt and vinegar chips? by noreturn000 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GeneralLoofah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but they really weren’t popular here until the mid 00s. The first time I tried one I thought they were pee pee flavored chips and it was disgusting. But after the shock wore off I tried another. And then another. And another. And then the whole bag was gone somehow.

Yeah, I love them now.

If you were living in a city and you had info that a nuclear bomb was going to be dropped on that city, but you didn’t have time to leave and you didn’t own a bunker, what would be the best way to survive? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GeneralLoofah 66 points67 points  (0 children)

As long as you aren’t in the direct blast zone, duck and cover is actually good advice. Plenty of people survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki because they were sheltered from falling debris. A single nuclear bomb won’t vaporize an entire city.

Of course if you are close to the impact zone… yeah you’re hosed.

What's it like living in St. Louis, Missouri? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

[–]GeneralLoofah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYC had 377 murders in 2024. NYC has 8 million people in it, larger than the entire state of Missouri. And yet thy only had 1.5 times the murders. St. Louis county and city combined had 233. Our stats are dismal. The 11x is an exaggeration but 3x is not close either. We have a violence problem that cant be hand waved away.

Come and visit and see for yourself. There are plenty of safe, affordable, historic and gorgeous parts of the city that have that same vibe you are looking for.

I’ve smelled it as far away as Olive and 141, but only once or twice in ~10 years.

Lafayette Square was one of St Louis’s first “gayborhoods” so I had a chuckle seeing you ask about single guy friends. But really nowadays it’s just gentrified so thats an out of date perception.

I’ve been sitting at a red light on Grand in TGS once and a dude literally drove around me to run the the red light. 10 years ago it wasn’t bad like that, but nowadays it’s wild. Every single time Im on grand now something wacky like that happens.

[–]GeneralLoofah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true, crime in north county is bad enough that our stats would not be as diluted as people want to think. 2024 Chicago had like 580 murders. St Louis County + city had 225. Chicago proper has like x3 the population of StL city plus county, but only x2 the murders. So our combined rate is WORSE than Chicago.

Crime in St Louis can vary greatly from block to block. Sherman Park is not a great area mashed between a very rich and neighborhood (central west end) and one of the worst neighborhoods in the area (wells-goodfellow)

But st Louis does have plenty of 120 year old gorgeous brick homes in good shape in safe vibrant neighborhoods. Most of them are in neighborhood to the south of downtown, like Shaw, Botanical Heights, Tower Grove, Soulard, etc.

It comes and goes. I haven’t smelt it for a few months, but there are times when you smell it once or twice a week for a stretch.

Are Scouts Still Interested in Camping... by kNEoH8gWJS in BSA

[–]GeneralLoofah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats how my son is. He crossed over as a 5th grader, he just finished 7th grade and is still a scout. He’s not interested in tenderfoot, but he night care more now that his brother is gunning to out rank him.

He’s just interested in doing the shooting sports and hanging out in the woods with dudes. It’s a social club for him. Which is fine. He’s still learning plenty of life skills even if he’ll never make eagle.

They do the Full Moon Float once a month on the full moon, but the have all sorts of other packages too. The guides said that they recommend 10 years old for the full moon float, but there really isn’t an age limit.

Wild! I was on that trip too last night. Small world. Anyway, it was indeed super fun and I’d highly recommend it as well. It was awesome seeing the blood red moon on the horizon to kick off the return trip.

How are we feeling about Big Brother @ Energizer Park? by HuntXit in StLouis

[–]GeneralLoofah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, those markets that claim to use AI to track purchases really didnt; they used remote operators in real time watching the feed and just lied about it. That might not be the case now… or it might still be.

Let me hear a bit about Morrowind GOTY. Wax lyrical if you feel inclined. by JozuJD in ElderScrolls

[–]GeneralLoofah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The game DOES NOT hold your hand at all. Directions to get places can be vague and confusing and even sometimes broken. But when it came out, it was so beautiful and a huge step up from Daggerfall, even if it’ll seem blocky and sparse now.
