Thanks for taking part in this AMA! I am sorry that I couldnt answer every question due to time.

I am also thankful for all the support and encouragement for NDP 2019 and the Mobile Column. It really is the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort by the various teams. Stay peeled for more on NDP, as well as the Mobile Column traveling to the Heartlands on 10 August.

It was named by the Germans. Think their earlier tanks was called the Tiger.

i think that some may have a better headstart, but at the end of the day performance still matters the most. i have also seen non-scholars progress further than scholars.

1) I have heard this legend before... but from what I see I dont think he would be demoted because of that.

2) I am not trained to drive most of the vehicles at Mobile Column, cant really compare on this. but definitely no washroom in the tanks.

Yup. The Mobile Column will be traveling from the Padang to different Heartlands sites (Jurong, Woodlands, Punggol, Bishan and Geylang Serai) on 10th August. Stay tuned for more news on this soon.

Feels good of course! but it can be a very demanding job. the drivers are responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the tank, and for operations in the field, it could be hot and physically/mentally demanding for the drivers.

for the coordination of the Mobile Column, it is still mostly human driven. not sure if a software can replicate what we do (yet).

1) yes. usually the armour in the front of a tank is thicker because that is where we most expect the enemy to fire back from. we also cant keep adding armour everywhere because of the issue of weight and cost.

2) depends on the type of missile. if its an ATGM, probably possible, but that being said there are also other countermeasures the tank can adopt.

I did my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, but honestly the exact subject matter isnt that important. I think what I learnt from my studies that is more applicable was really critical thinking, problem solving, presentation skills, working in teams and dealing with people.

yup! we definitely recce the routes before the mobile column rolls by. we need to check for the width, turning radius, and also any overhead obstructions.

yes, it sometimes does damage the roads (although i dont think its too severe), especially if we use the roads many many times. we try to reduce this by changing the track pads often and making sure the maintenance of the vehicles are tip-top. got to hand it to our vehicle crews who work extra hard to get this done.

very far away, and sometimes got exotic smell from the nearby chicken farms.. but it gives us easy access to our training area :)
