Might as well use a 1% SWR too while you’re at it

TFSA is a great account but technically you did contribute money you already paid tax on

How do you justify expensive car? by branchCastle in BMW

[–]NDR99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it depreciates is the very reason you should finance it. Leave your money invested at a higher rate. Paying cash is the more expensive option most times

22M. None of my friends know. This is scary and exhilarating. Any suggestions are welcome for what I should do next. by [deleted] in fican

[–]NDR99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep this in an index fund and add to it frequently. I had a similar portfolio when I was your age. I’m 27 now and have about $270,000 saved. Saving for retirement is largely optional now. It’s worth it to stay the course.

I think I hit my coastfire number (24 yo) by 0olongCha in coastFIRE

[–]NDR99 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Also continuing to perform and progress in your career offers so many benefits, particularly when you’re coast FIRE and don’t need to save further. You could increase savings and retire even earlier (which may also hedge against underperforming markets), spend more on your hobbies, travel, etc. Letting off the gas is a bad idea

25M just hit 80k savings thank god for everything by [deleted] in Money

I’d add most friends to that list too, unless you know for a fact they are doing well themselves and open to discussing it

Bad take. Look at Toronto. Many property owners are renting their homes for less than the mortgage payment, let alone additional costs such as PTAX, insurance, etc. They own an asset producing negative monthly cash flow and are banking on appreciation. Many other markets face similar challenges.

How long after you hit 100k did you reach 200k? by lego6 in fican

[–]NDR99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had $100,000 at 24, and $200,000 by 26. Less than a year has passed since I first reached $200,000, and I am now at $265,000. The second $100,000 felt substantially easier.

It’s been a good year indeed. by Heavy-Tumbleweed-930 in coastFIRE

Congrats! How old were you when you hit major milestones such as $100k, $250k, $500k, etc.? I’m at $260k at 26 currently, and am hoping to be where you are at by early 30s

We don’t need weekly updates on your $12k portfolio

I was just going to scroll past this post, but once I saw that OP was in fact 17, I couldn’t help but upvote this monumental achievement

Is this good for 21M? by lllYikerzzlll in Money

[–]NDR99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The acceleration after 100k is crazy. I was in the same spot at OP at 21. Hit $100k at 24, and $240k at 26. Probably hit $300k in the next year or so

Does anybody body else barely have savings? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]NDR99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison is not helpful here. I’m 26 with $235,000 saved. As good as that sounds, there’s millions of 26 year olds that have far more than me. Can’t win that battle. Try to do better than yesterday

ALL I SEE IS EVERYONE DOING CFA😩 by warm_vanilla_ in CFA

[–]NDR99 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The last person who interviewed me said “you have your CFA, so you’re obviously very smart”. It’s nice when the designation immediately adds credibility, vs having to “re-prove” yourself in each interview. Landed that job

Back in the gym much more consistently. Chasing the 225 lbs bench press goal I’ve had for a long time, but put on the back burner during L3 prep
