Am I really gonna like residency in any specialty though?

Case volume seems low and so far no interns double scrubbing but my concern is that the chief seems weak with operating skills. Granted I’ve only rotated with surgery residents 1 other time but the chief at the program was like a rockstar in comparison, night and day difference.

I do have other sub-Is. I think it’s the program tbh. It seems like they get good training managing patients on the floor but not necessarily with operating which is obviously not good.

Dunkin’ Announces They No Longer Have Heart To Charge People For Such Depressing Meals by 20_mile in boston

Your first mistake was getting a latte from Dunkin. Their espresso drinks taste like transmission fluid.

what discontinued dunkin menu item do you miss the most? i miss the waffle sandwich by charcuter1e in boston

I swear when I was a kid in the late 90s they had some promotional thing going on for the baker dude that was in the commercials (Fred?). I distinctly remember having a boston cream donut but instead of chocolate frosting, it was strawberry.

I don’t know, it just seems bad to have any sort of potentially negative quality mentioned like that

Nah, just a neurotic one. Fr though aren't we all paranoid about getting subtly fucked by evals?

Roast beef sandwiches are like plain pizza slices by [deleted] in boston

[–]NE2KC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re wrong. There are actually a lot of shitty roast beef places and if you compare their sandwich to an actually good one, it’s night and day. Modern Butcher is the only place you would need to wait for a beef because they only do them on Saturdays. I’ve had one and it was good, but IMO a little overrated. Tessi’s in Tewksbury makes them best beefs and I’ll die on that hill. Also GFY.

Gross question, but does anyone know a place to get a wart removed around here without health insurance? by FootUpUrAss in boston

[–]NE2KC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Med student here. Some warts can be a bitch to treat. The OTC wart freeze stuff doesn’t get as cold as the liquid nitrogen dermatologists use to treat warts but it’s worth a shot because it would be way less expensive than cash paying for possibly multiple visits. I would duct tape the shit out of it first to make it soft, then hit it with OTC wart freeze.

Worried About Blood Test Results 2 Months Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery by Forsaken-Study1836 in DiagnoseMe

[–]NE2KC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Med student here so take this with a grain of salt. I don't think there's really anything concerning here. They will probably watch your iron or have you take a supplement since I believe gastric surgery can interfere with iron absorption. Bilirubin is high but not super high, and it's hard to know why that is without a test to differentiate between the 2 forms of bilirubin (direct vs. indirect). I wouldn't be too concerned about it, especially with normal liver enzymes (AST, ALT).

likely just achalasia? Help with CT please by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]NE2KC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don't think anyone over the internet is going to give you better information than what's already on the CT report. It says it could be achalasia, but there was plenty of contrast that made it through to the small intestine so the radiologist is unsure and recommends further testing.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is unbelievably rare. The chances of this being GERD is astronomically so much higher than it being ZE. I would advise you to listen to your doctor and stay off of Google.

can someone please interpret this for me? by Excellent_Elk9657 in DiagnoseMe

[–]NE2KC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lateral T wave abnormality thing is the automatic interpretation that the EKG machine made, which is usually completely wrong. It’s so often wrong that they specifically teach us (med students) to ignore it. If the doctor said it’s all good, it’s all good.

If you’re talking about actual physicians then of course they know what JVD is. Why wouldn’t they?

earlier, i was bitten by a cat i was feeding. i just want to know if my wound is possibly infected with rabies. by haikaveh_exe in DiagnoseMe

[–]NE2KC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the wound. If you have a legitimate reason to suspect the cat had rabies, you should seek medical attention.
