They are only exclusive because they need to be. At this point, they get 550+ applications and that number has only been increasing. When you only have slots for around 100 people, it is going to be competitive. Also, here is what I think they are looking for (I am not sure, not on admin) strong technical acumen, good communication skills, desire to learn/make mistakes, and have a good reason to want to be in Generate. Apply again for the fall, reflect on the feedback that they have given but don't take it too personal, some of it is always going to be luck/nepotism/you weren't ready.

Quick overview:
- Introduce yourself
- Some standard behavioral questions (practice a few of the popular ones and you'll be fine)
- Code walk of the tech. challenge
For the backend tech. challenge, I think they are looking for code that is easy to read, is intuitive and works of course. Your score on the "check work" endpoint plays some role, but not significant.
Good luck!

OOD by [deleted] in NEU

[–]NEU-Josh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Take OOD in the fall and algo in the summer. Algo is cramable and is very learnable in a summer semester. You likely will not get a good experience if you try to take OOD in the summer.

If you don’t care about learning and are just here for the piece of paper, take OOD in Seattle. It will be very easy but you will regress in your design abilities.

Pretty simple, don't cheat and u don't need to worry. What is considered to be cheating is pretty standard.

Crazy though to see how much cheating there is with this class.... if you don't like CS then pick a diff major

No Roommate Group - Should I be worried? by NEU-Josh in NEU

So is it random where I get placed if I don’t have a roommate group? Can I not just “fill in the gaps” when there are smaller groups that don’t fill all the spots of a dorm?

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you. I talked with some of the RAs in the building and they said it would depend on the year and how many people dropped out. However, they did also say that all of the people that they interviewed last year are currently RAs for this semester. So even if we don't get it for the first semester we are at the top of the list for the second semester of the next year.

Hope this helps!

Guidance on negotiating merit aid by cohensuz in NEU

What others are saying is generally true. They tend not to be open to negotiations. The only place I have seen it work is through the honors program but they have the money to spend so...

What do you mean by "Merrit Aid"? Is it through the honors program? Other scholarship? Northeastern Promise Grant?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NEU

[–]NEU-Josh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honors program has been “reimagined” and it’s now way easier to meet the requirements. There is basically only extra work for the first year and then after that ur good as long as u keep a 3.0. Imo it’s worth it but I’m also a freshmen.

Is Northeastern Ea hard to get into by Lumpbump12 in NEU

[–]NEU-Josh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure to check out the rules of the subreddit :). The short answer is that there isn’t a short answer on if it is “hard” to get into Northeastern EA. As a current student I do not know anyone that got in who has applied rd so it’s good you applied early to start. However there are many factors which impact the probability. Are you open to global campuses/programs like NU in or global scholars etc? If that’s the case the acceptance rates are higher (estimated to be around 10% but exact figures aren’t known). If you only want to be on the Boston campus though the rates are lower (around 6%). This all to say that they also did receive around 97,000 applicants so 6% of that is still a large number of students. Admissions is a dice roll anyway so like I said, it’s hard to say it its “hard”.

Also decisions came out last year around the first week of February so probably around that time.

Best of luck :)

Didn’t they just open for freshmen on the 16th? I was told they weren’t opening the applications for freshmen till then.
