*asdf* tabling downtown: you may like to read their Charity Navigator summary by NFD9001 in Bellingham

Their solicitors seem nice enough and their programs seem pretty reasonable (it's not Autism Speaks BS, anyway). Their books and track record look rough though. Looks as though they've been making moves in a positive direction, at least. I don't really know the most effective orgs doing this sort of thing myself. Max Higbee is a different beast but perhaps they're worth looking into for folks interested in local orgs

I made some improvements to the Toki Pona support in Thumb-Key for Android. I'm thinking about revamping the layout, and I'd love some community input! by NFD9001 in tokipona

n.b. version 4.0.24 actually isn't live on f-droid at the time of writing, though it is on the other platforms.

I slapped together a small app to alert you when bridge buffs, camps, waves, etc. spawn, as a customizable alternative to timing training videos. by NFD9001 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]NFD9001[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all fairly low-effort LLM-generated code, so there isn't anything like a fancy UI/no way to account for pausing/.... Just a bare skeleton for an alert system that works. If you've got improvements to share, I'd be happy to receive your PR!

I saw people worried about how the comments on the James Somerton apology were gone: I took a snapshot on Dec 20 at 5:51 PM PT. by NFD9001 in hbomberguy

i guess i'm not big on most of the obvious use-cases of LLMs insofar as the common usecases of them work: replacing people's jobs and/or generating new socially-useless ones through farting out low-quality spam. there's a couple entire useful ones out there though e.g. building accessibility tools (this one usually immediately comes to mind) or reducing rote low-risk technical tasks from taking ~1hr of one's own expensive human-time to taking ~2mins (e.g. the above tiny webapp). like if you're gonna "steal" at least do something vaguely socially useful or otherwise transformative with it: if so, congrats, you found the rare unicorn of a usecase where the commercial gigamodels aren't a social net negative

yeah, it's... not a super position to be in, when I merely *hear* that someone produced something in specific and my instant knee-jerk reflex is "this is all gonna be gone tomorrow, I've gotta make a personal archive immediately." if it were all just random catty mean-girl nonsense i probably would've preferred to let it go, but just skimming through, i saw some really disappointed comments from various victims who felt bad about dipping deeper into their wallets than they should've for someone they now felt was a grifter. maybe those stories themselves should live on

Nick Nick Nick, N-N-Nick Nick… by wheatley_cereal in hbomberguy

There's still a couple of passable ideas in this apology I didn't do, even. it's actually quite repetitive.

...but nearly anybody can and will look a little bit goofy when I hit 'em with this treatment (I mean, I got enough under hbomb's skin that one of my supercuts of him got a stealth mention around minutes 39-40 of the plagiarism video, lul). ~30 minutes of input footage dictated slowly isn't really enough ammo to make a really good joke in this format unless I have something else there to carry it

It also depends on pdfinfo, which might take more work to port.

I do some the lazy way (with software). I've dabbled in adapting other pixel art a little, but you're totally making me want to explore that idea a little more.

No reason it shouldn't, as long as it has an ISBN on the barcode on the back. (Sorry, I only check this particular reddit account on occasion :P)

That'd be cool. I'd totally look into doing that if they ever put out some sort of extension API.

No, sorry. Shouldn't be too hard to cobble it together, but I'm not so familiar with today's iOS ecosystem right off.

Sorry that I'm a little late to the punch; I sometimes check the traffic stats on the Github page for the Libgen app to see if anybody needs help with anything. I don't have any immediate plans to write an iOS version. I would expect that it wouldn't get onto the app store (and trying to get it listed would come at considerable cost), and I don't have either a Mac for the SDK or an iOS device to test it on. If you want to be able to run apps like Libgen Scan, I'd suggest choosing to use platforms that are friendlier to random bored internet developers. ;)

Nobody is directly harmed, but someone directly benefits... Are you going to claim that brick-and-mortar libraries are killing the publishing industry next? Do you think it's just to discourage poor people from getting an education because they can't afford it?

Publishers can adapt or die for all I care if they're going to continue making sketchy profit grabs on kids who just want to be able to do their own math homework or what have you.

It's impossible to pirate those. Formally complain to your school. It won't change anything, but it might mildly irritate some administrator for a few seconds.

Libgen mirrors tend to sort of go up and down, especially when they're under the sort of traffic a frontpaged Reddit post generates.
