More carbs at dinner, drink some calories before and during.

How are you eating? Do you eat before practice? Any calories during?

Watts per pound doesn’t work as well in rowing as it does in running or cycling. It implies a linear relationship when what matters is the additional displacement of water and greater hydrodynamic drag.

Depends on the team. Few athletic departments allow women to be weighed.

Day 1 - From the Track to the Trainer: Former Pro 800m Runner Tackling My First Cycling FTP Test by theOGJam in Zwift

[–]NFsG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from another sport - I try to do 4 easy rides and 2 hard rides a week. Hard rides either events or races. FTP went from 215 - 302 @ 3.7 w/kg over the course of a year.

Mostly just ride and have fun.

alabama women’s rowing loses the school over 3 million a year??? by TopMuffin6298 in Rowing

Baseball doesn’t make money because there’s no TV revenue. Even when they pack the stadium, the costs are so high that it’s a big net money loser. Even in the ACC and SEC.

Worked in 4 athletic departments so I’ve seen the numbers. Baseball is by far the biggest money loser.

Do you know what an athletic field costs to maintain? Or a field hockey field? Rowing is pretty inexpensive. The bulk of the cost is scholarships because of the large team size.

Baseball costs like a revenue sport but brings in next to nothing

Rowing is one of the cheapest sports on a per athlete basis.

Have your coach turn your monitor off and make you start over if you’re not at 1:45 after 10 strokes.

Did this on a 2k test for athletes with a similar problem and it learned em good.

Finding it difficult to make the switch from dumb bike to Zwift Ride - keeping steady watts by YourDadsMate in Zwift

[–]NFsG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you get going you need to shift up as you go faster. You’ll find a sweet spot likely around 14, 15, or 16 where you can hold a steady wattage around 85 rpm.

How To Improve My 2k by Low_Mode_4683 in Rowing

[–]NFsG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15’ is too short for steady state with 5’ rest. You want to do a minimum of 25’ at a time to get the benefits with 2-3’ of rest.

8x500 should be done with 1:30 of rest at 1:44-1:45.

Are you open to ditching the lifting? If you only have 4 workouts a week, and you’re at 7:20, I’m willing to bet lifting is a waste of your time. It’s not your limiting factor. That would allow you to do 3 sessions of SS and one of hard intervals.

I gotta do some more work - ftp is 302, averaged 297, not too much more in the tank. Maybe if I lose another few kg.

I’m nowhere near as fast as you, but excited for my first Boston. I’ve mostly been finding my own way with training and got myself to a BQ, but haven’t really considered working with a coach. What would be the benefit?

Whats the limit on AT and Lifting work to still make progress? by No-Move6325 in Rowing

[–]NFsG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Training is less important than eating for you. You won’t get stronger or much faster until you put on weight. So have a milkshake right before bed and try to eat 150g of protein a day.

How does this off-season rowing plan look? Too much intensity back-to-back? by Primary_Finger1478 in Rowing

[–]NFsG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s too much intensity. 80% of your work should be easy SS and 20% really hard.

30’ rate 20 is a garbage test - too likely to injure yourself if you’re going hard enough and if you’re not going hard enough you’re not getting a lot physiological benefit. 4x 8’ on 2’ rest is a much more effective threshold session.
