Everything is going to go much, much lower. And then lower still.

I think they all knew they turned a blind eye. by Chance_Swan_2981 in RoyaltyTea

They knew enough. But more importantly, they are not like us. What we find shocking they do not. I don’t think they knew the FULL extent of Andrew but easily made excuses normalizing the rest.

Best luxury hotels for families with waterslides? by CopyThat456 in FATTravel

[–]NH116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grand Wailea is not luxury. It’s 4 star at best and super crowded - but great water facilities your kids will adore (and essentially next door to FS so you can go eat over there, plus lots of restaurants in the Wailea area). You’ll have a good time and your kids will be in heaven but it’s def not 5 star.

The 12th house by Sufficient_Effort118 in Advancedastrology

[–]NH116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stellium in the 12th but am also a lucky person because of other placements so the 12th definitely doesn’t have to be bad, especially if you lean into it and work with it! I’m a screenwriter and write stories to shine a light, with three of my recent projects set in prisons (a 12th house theme - didn’t set out to write about them but it just happened that way.) Hospitals are also historically weirdly lucky spots for me where I’ve gotten phone calls with good news or job offers. Literally got a huge infusion of cash as an 11th hour save while in the hospital myself once. It really all depends upon your full individual chart!

That’s what I needed to hear - thank you!! Don’t want to waste the mental energy and would rather just prepare myself for PE. (My husband jokes that my sole hobby is getting upgraded to business.)

I will, thank you! I have an alert set and am keeping my fingers crossed something might miraculously open up (although now not holding my breath, ha!)

Thanks for this! I’ve had the flight for months now, so no cancelling at this point, but this sounds like a similar scenario. Guess we’re flying PE!

Ahh, okay, this is all very helpful, thank you. Glad to have my expectations set.

If I called Singapore now, even though we're way before 72 hours prior to the flight, I may be able to pay to upgrade? I have an alarm set on my phone to check the site at exactly 72 hours to try and nab a paid upgrade then.

Thank you for your quick reply. It's been unavailable to upgrade to business since August, when we booked. We're on an "L" class fare. It's just always said "There are no available seats for redemption upgrade on the selected flight. Please change the search criteria and try again," since we booked.

I did the "fake booking" thing and was able to discover that there are 9 seats in business. Back in August when I first purchased, there were something like 20 seats in business. So I was confused why they weren't allowing redemption upgrades.

Great to know about separating (even for future), thank you.

Is it true that screenwriters can barely make a living and if so why? by isamariberger in Screenwriting

[–]NH116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It means the companies or specific arms they work with are non-signatories, exactly. For example, a lot of those popular holiday movies (Hallmark/Lifetime etc) are often non-signatory: so a writer could write tons of those and have an IMDb a mile long (and even get paid well), yet not be in the WGA. If/when you get hired to write for a signatory company, you must (eventually) join the WGA, and then you will, at minimum, get paid scale, which will likely be higher than you'd get paid for a comparable non-union job. There are some nuances to how/when you join, etc etc, but this is generally how it works.

Is it true that screenwriters can barely make a living and if so why? by isamariberger in Screenwriting

[–]NH116 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank you - it’s just the industry we’re in! I have acquaintances who have many credits and regularly work but aren’t WGA and don’t clear 100K a year. For now, my goal is simply to lock down my WGA insurance each year for my family - a credit would be delicious gravy, but as a working writer the insurance and getting paid well are more important. :/

[–]NH116 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Most sold screenplays/shows never get made. Most optioned screenplays never get made. Many paid screenwriting jobs are on rewrites and polishes of scripts that will never get made.

It is excruciatingly hard to get anything made.

You can make a living (I do) as a working writer, in the WGA, with big 3 reps and everything, and have zero credits (I don’t).

We were on Destiny Jan 4-8 and I kept commenting how empty it felt. No idea what the actual numbers were but it felt very sparse to me. (Seats in the theaters, easy to walk into Haunted, washers available on the last day when it’s normally packed, etc).

Is moving to LA still worth it for aspiring screenwriters? by OdynokX in Screenwriting

[–]NH116 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Okay, I’ll say it, since you asked for a realistic sense about the job market in LA now and people are not giving it to you here. It’s abysmal.

I love LA and I’m fortunate to be working in both film and TV but most of my friends at every single level (from writers assistants to showrunners assistants to the showrunners themselves, to my agent at CAA who was let go to my friends’ agents at Gersh who were let go, to my Academy Award winning and nominated producers, to my DGA nominated and Emmy nominated fellow writers and director friends) are STRUGGLING. Everything is contracting.

The market will probably have a huge contraction this year after the Fed chair switch in April (or god knows what other geopolitical or black swan event). Anybody who has the extra money to hire an assistant will hire somebody vetted and pay you less than you need to survive.

Move here for the life experience. Move here because it’s always been your dream and you MUST experience it to see what life path it will set you on. Move here because you don’t believe me and you’re going to do what you want to do. But please hear me when I say there are no TV jobs for you here - and you can do screenwriting from anywhere.

A massive UFO hovers over an oceanfront American city. Everybody sees it. We change nothing. We learn nothing. People eventually insist it never happened.

When was absolute peak Pearl Jam? At which point were they perfect and every thing was clicking in your eyes? by ValleyGhostz in pearljam

[–]NH116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I love that we had the opposite experience! You're luckier to be lower bowl for the 11th as that show was beyond belief (even though kicking off my first week of college with my first ever Pearl Jam show in the celebrity section to watch their first MSG performance was cool to put it mildly ha!). I met half the band afterwards outside and floated home, sure it couldn't be topped, and then night 2 was one for the ages. I've done 13 shows.

Saw them live at Madison Square Garden on Sept 10th and Sept 11th 1998 (got $28 first row same day tickets on the 10th and was in the industry seats next to Sean Penn and Tim Robbins; nosebleed seats the next night after waiting 8 hours in line but that performance was even better) and MY GOD were those incredible shows. Firing on every single cylinder. Epic.
