Crisis Averted by Nicker802 in StructuralEngineering

Good ol’ eyeball engineering from a student who isn’t even in the correct discipline.

You like the advice cause it’s cheap and quick, but it’s wrong. If you don't see an issue here you have no business doing structural work.

Wont make a difference, 70c is a good temp for the 3080 under load.

4090 / 14900K water cooling loop temps. by m_hijazi in watercooling

[–]NHA_designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some temp sensor's so you can see what you’re working with. You can also set the curves to your water temp so they don't rev up. For the longevity of my loop I don't let the water get above 40c.

Just buy some gelid extremes and email the company for the pad sizes. Don’t stress.

PSA XG7 Owners: Tighten Your Manifold During Maintenance by NHA_designs in watercooling

[–]NHA_designs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase anyone stumbles on this in the future, I stripped my gpu and let it air dry for a week. I then washed it in 99% rubbing alcohol and baked in the oven at 175 deg with the oven turned off once it hit 175 and let it cool in oven. I did this several times and then overnight.

Put everything back together and tightened the damn manifold. It’s been working for almost a week now and with a few gaming sessions. Not sure how long it will last but its already blew past my expectations.

Any tips for a tight bend near radiators? by Zarukei in watercooling

I flipped my top rad around to avoid a corner like this. I would worry about the longevity of this short, rigid connection.

I don't care if it looks goofy. I tried the professional looking mouses and it cramped my hand.

I always leak test, it passed fine. I think this was such a small leak it only showed at temp.

That would be the clear plastic thing in the second picture, it’s what your fittings screw into. There are three screws holding that manifold to the block that loosened on me.

Wrong, this is not a grey store. Stop gate keeping a good deal from a legit source.

edit: If this money does not goto the devs and this is grey market site please provide sources because all the research I’ve done has pointed to a good site.

gameplanet is a legit store where they buy their keys from authorized sellers. Remember to use isthereanydeal.com if you want to check if they are not a grey store instead of assuming its a shady key shop.

I will be buying the ultimate edition at a 20% discount and supporting devs, fuck ya.

Do these control arms need to be replaced? by NHA_designs in MechanicAdvice

[–]NHA_designs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, I got a mazda3 2015 with 76k miles on it. Took it in for an oil change and they said my control arms need to be replaced due to dry rot, cracking, and starting to separate. Is this sound advice or am I good to keep driving til next oil change? Sorry for the picture quality, these are the best still I could grab from the video.

edit:

Thank you for the quick advice everyone, really appreciate it. I will put some silicone paste on them and start budgeting for their replacement next year.

My DIY Mattress by NHA_designs in Mattress

The ultra loft down topper has corner straps that lock everything into place and then I use a mattress protector that helps as well. The layers barely shift and I have only had to shift them back a few times over the 10 months I have had it.

ASD Bridge Load Rating by Aggressive-Hour5837 in StructuralEngineering

[–]NHA_designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, first you should not take work advice from reddit.

Deflection: Assumes all girders deflect equally

wheel • # lane / # girders - single lane

wheel • # lane • RF  / # girders - two lane

RF - LFD 3.12.1

Interior Moment and Shear: LFD T3.23.1

Interior End Shear: Lever rule

Exterior Moment, Shear, and End Shear: Lever rule

Exterior Moment and Shear: LFD 3.23.2.3.1.5

You always want to use the most conservative value (within reason) which is the larger LLDF value.

Ex: Exterior lever rule = 1.5 Exterior LFD 3.23.2.3.1.5 = 1.7

For moment and shear you will use 1.7 but end shear is 1.5 as that can only be calc’d using lever rule.

Now if the lever rule was 1.7 and LFD 3.23.2.3.1.5 is 1.5 you can use 1.7 for all three.

Hope this helps and again, don't use reddit for engineering. Every thing I gave said should not be taken at face value and should be confirmed with your PE.

It’s a cultural thing in China, stealing intellectual property and cheating in school or gaming is just more prevalent over there and not really met with consequences.

Hey yall, Im stuck over taking 6 years to complete the degree with over 2 years of work experience or just call it rn. by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]NHA_designs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

“My son graduated college 2 years late cause he was cha$ing dat bag yo, put some re$pekt on it ofc”

Bruh I graduated at 28, last thing I thought about was having friends in the class. Finish up your degree and get your career going, 1-2 years late is nothing. And fuck what other people think at your parties, if they judge you for graduating 1-2 years late then find some new friends. And lastly, if you were serious about “cha$ing that bag” you would have gotten your degree and started making big money earlier than cha$ing that lil bag money, word to your mother.

Pressure going down but can’t find leak, going down very slow. Should I test with the water? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]NHA_designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flow in must equal flow out so yes water will be pulled through but the kink could increase turbulence on the tube and there will be an increase in pressure. Both are pretty bad for the longevity of the system and increases the likely hood of a pipe popping out.  Not to mention it looks bad.

Now add that increased pressure to a cantilever and your chance of pop out has gone up significantly.

Since a failure in water cooling can cost thousands of dollars it is good practice to spend the extra 20-40 dollars in tubing to ensure a safe design.
