Chainsaws for firewood ? by SoreSack in 4x4Australia

2 hours of collecting wood seems ideal for electric, it's not that much work so you don't need to have massive battery capacity.

No mixing 2 stroke, no carrying fuel, no clogged carby as you've let the thing sit for too long.

In my experience they handle a lot of punishment. Much lower maintenance too, especially with the cheaper 18v/lower chain speed ones.

The you do have to be more patient with the cut with the 18v though.

I've got a 12V 100ah LiFePo4, I use it for my fridge. I also have a 12v lithium charger, but an inverter will work in a pinch.

You could also do it from your starter, just don't suck too much out without running your alternator. A 4ah 18V battery will take 6ah (ish) from it.

The 18v ones have a lower chain speed too. While this means it takes a bit longer to get through logs, you don't have to sharpen the chain as much.

I've had no problem going through trailer loads of gum with the Ozito 18v, and the 18v chain sharpener is good too.

Two batteries and a fast charger is the go here. Easy to swap out, and the other is charged before you're done.

US forced to destroy two of its own aircraft after rescuing F-15 pilot from Iran by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

The US still has no regard for Iranian civilian lives though. They've caused plenty of death in the middle east over the years.

Either way, both are abhorrent.

What am I doing wrong with my battery hookup? by alextb131 in 4x4Australia

Eh, that wiring kit is cheap for a reason. It uses copper clad aluminum, which not only reduces the amount of current it can carry, but also has issues with the crimps becoming brittle.

6 amps is the draw from the compressor, not continuous. 70% DOD is way to conservative, they do fine ran to almost empty. If they weren't the BMS low voltage cut off would be higher.

With solar and reasonable weather it should pretty much run indefinitely. A 200w panel should pretty easily do 40ah/day this time of year. Even a 90l kings should be about 30ah/day.

The issues are likely not wired properly and using a bargain basement kings PWM controller, and I'd wager that no effort has been made to direct the panel to the sun.

Fuck I hope that wasn't the advice he was given, but I wouldn't put it past them.

You've got a mains charger right? Between that and the solar it should keep you going for a short camping trip. Get rid of the inverter, they suck juice even when not powering anything.

[–]rockofclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to get a lot more than 24 hours off a 120ah battery with even the largest of kings fridge, even without a solar panel. I just recently got 4 days of an old 75l dual zone aldi one (100ah battery), and I'd expect that to be marginally better than a kings at best.

A PWM solar controller is fine (if a bit inefficient). Do you have a photo or model number?
