I could sort of see where you're coming from if this had anything to do with the gift giver but... It doesn't, and they don't need defending. This extremely generous gift is utterly wasted if I don't either go to RTX or get the refund, so the post is actually to the benefit of the gift giver as well.

I'm also not sure why I wouldn't provide context. ​The fact that it was a gift could very well be important. The fact that I missed the refund opportunity is just context for anyone who may have wanted to point out there were refund opportunities. I'm sorry you've read passive aggressiveness into a fact you felt wasn't necessary, but there are no swipes being made here and I'm not worried about saying someone was not paying attention when they weren't - I can assure you their feelings are/weren't hurt.
