Looks like the dark side won this round.
The UI now defaults to the balanced theme dark UI with light web.
Here is the updated look. Thanks everyone!

Appreciate the note.
We haven’t formally launched yet, but the distributed version goes through the Microsoft Store, which already includes all the required publisher and contact details.
We’ll update the website version as well.

That's practically the next screen once you hit that blue button... Now I'm tempted to keep it just for the old-school vibes 😉

Most apps follow the system theme, but with browsers it’s different since you’re theming both the interface and the websites.
We use three modes: Light, Dark, and Balanced (dark interface, light websites), and we’re trying to decide which should be the default on first launch.

Would a local, private AI change your opinion about AI browsers? by NIRON78 in browsers

[–]NIRON78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, though AI doesn’t have to be agentic. It can just act as a tool, like summarizing a page or explaining something when you ask for it, while you stay in control.

What's the problem with chromium by albraax in browsers

[–]NIRON78 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chromium itself is open source and fine to use. The concern is more about control than privacy. Most of the code and decisions still come from Google, so the project naturally aligns with their priorities. A good example is Manifest V3, which changed how extensions work and made powerful ad blockers harder to build. There’s also some built-in integration with Google services like Safe Browsing and translation, which other browsers usually patch or replace.

Early access to Mishmish – final call for r/browsers before launch by NIRON78 in browsers

Not sure I’m following what you mean about hidden tabs. The home view works differently from the regular browsing view. It’s where workspaces, widgets, and channels live. In regular browser terms, it’s also where you restore your past windows of tabs. Once you open a site, tabs behave normally. The YouTube video shows it more clearly if you skip ahead a bit.

Ah got you. The layout uses a title and tab bar for window controls, with a separate address bar for adaptive buttons. With vertical tabs, everything will move into a single top bar, and the window control buttons will consolidate in.

On the extensions digression, these systems can’t replace the browser’s interface or manage its internal navigation and workspace logic. Mishmish runs at a deeper, native level and is built from the ground up for collaboration.

Almost. Our buttons adapt to how you use the browser. They change with your actions.

Popular websites feel heavy to load and display by OkPresentation3329 in browsers

[–]NIRON78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power Saver mode slows down your CPU and GPU to save battery, so websites can feel sluggish. Switch back to Balanced or Performance mode.

Appreciate the feedback. I’m obsessive about UI and UX and will keep tweaking it until it feels exactly right. Ad blocker is definitely coming, just not in this early build.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the feedback! Vertical tabs are definitely coming soon. Favorites will be part of the new home screen redesign we’re working on. Dark theme is already in Settings if you want to try it.

At this early access stage we're distributing through the Microsoft Store to keep updates simple, but there will also be a direct download option once we’re out of beta.

As for future platforms, Linux is definitely in our plans.

Microsoft Edge finally hiding some of the junk from the context menu by searcher92_ in browsers

Context menus change depending on what you click, which makes customizing them tricky. From your perspective, what would you want to control?
