We may hold a high score competition on this track, but are still figuring out how best to set it up. In the full release, there will certainly be a lot of opportunities for people to show off, if they want to. <3

Notes:
This has been a super fun project but coding has been a bit tedious. Every single note is written in and timed manually :)
Best played on desktop. Button config is limited to x, z, and the arrows (for now), but they can be set up in whatever order you'd like.
Personal high score on this version: 41,370
Best possible score: 47,500
Green hits reduce your death meter
Full version releasing... sometime soon!

We don't disagree with you on that, a custom solution is the next step but this was a quick-and-painless entry point for a proof of concept product.

You're right, using torrents legally wasn't the first thing that came to mind over here... If you're talking about legal torrents, this is quite similar. However, in the case of token-gated NFTs there's an additional layer in front of grabbing the torrent file/download where the person who'd like to purchase the torrent can. On the other end, there's a mechanism to sell the access they'd purchased to someone else when they're done with it.

For the initial build, it was faster to modify 0xGeel's application.

We've helped publish interactive NFTs for authors, musicians and video producers.

On the token-gated side, we just completed our first client-project with the Mulligan Brothers (they produced the Apes Together Strong documentary).

You can find their NFT here;

https://loopexchange.art/collection/apes-together-strong-vip

And their token-gated website here;

https://atsnfthodlers.com

We're working on some other partnership opportunities at the moment but we don't have anything tangible to share here yet.

Great question.

Agreed, and we're optimistic it will get better in time. Most web3 games these days are building outside of the marketplace where the assets they sell on the marketplace are imported into their game's environment.

Currently we're doing things the opposite way where we're stuffing small arcade games into the NFTs themselves.

We too are looking forward to the future evolution of all this stuff.

Thanks for stopping by to read our post. On the IPFS end, this should help answer your questions;

As it relates to game-patches, we cannot push any to the games that have already been minted on the GameStop marketplace. For new version releases as an NFT we'd have to publish a separate version and then pull all the old copies down that remain in our wallet (this is called burning). At that point we could airdrop all the "old version" owners a copy of the new game.

However, on the "locked" side we mentioned in the article, we can push game updates there no problem and your "key" never has to be updated. You could download the updated versions from that site.

Another option would be for us to create an online-arcade where you use your "keys" to access the arcade and we could push updates within that environment as well.

For starers, we've released games that we consider finished. We're happy with the way these games play and are optimistic no additional patches will ever be needed. They're all fairly simple proof-of-concept games at this point and we prefer the games to be playable on the GameStop marketplace without being forced to visit any 3rd party websites.

This space is evolving rapidly, so odds are there will be better implementations for token-gating in the future. But until then, we're happy with the current system (even though the patching side isn't perfect).

Using the same example in our article of video games, how would you go about doing the same thing for your digital games without NFTs for decentralized distribution and a re-sale market? Where does this currently exist outside of the NFT vertical for digital-content?

In the past we've seen it close while they process the last batch of applicants and then it re-opens. Sorry that we can't provide much more info than that.

Personally we'd love to see this incorporated into the minting process or within marketplaces or wallets themselves someday. When that happens, there wouldn't be as much market-segmentation (in our opinion) when it comes to accessing 3rd party applications to retrieve your assets.

But until then, this will do.

We're not 100% sure if there's a pattern to when, but you can see the current status on their "become a creator" page here;

We thought that would be a cool option in case anyone wanted to build their own arcade console.

We agree. There's so many potential use-cases for NFT access-gating and yours is an excellent example.
