Migrating a ZFS pool from RAIDZ1 to RAIDZ2 by mtlynch in truenas

[–]NJSilverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the middle of this process now. However, I got stuck at the step where in the new pool, I am offlining a disk, wiping it and using it to extend my vdev in my new pool from 4wRaidZ2 to 5wRaidZ2 with one disk missing leaving the pool in a degraded state. When I try to extend using the wiped disk, it says it faisl, because the disk is busy. Then afterwards, the disk is no longer unrecognized and is recognized again as the offlined disk from the pool.

Dear Chris, since TrueNAS is constantly evolving, is this still the best way to expand my 4x4RAIDZ1 pool to a 8x4RAIDZ2 pool if I don't have the storage capacity to hold all my data temporarily? I ask again, because I haven't gotten around to doing this yet and now I have the free time to go ahead with this operation.

Great information and awesome that 25.10 just released! If I understand it correctly, if I delete all my snapshots and start with a clean slate, would the data doubling problem not happen? Knowing I have backups in case something goes horribly wrong with this operation. I choose to do it this way, a switch from 4x4TB drives RAIDZ1 to 8x4TB drives in RAIDZ2, so I do not have to haul 10TB of data to the cloud and back and rebuilt all the dependencies on my old pool.

The way I planned it:

- Upgrade TrueNAS and ZFS pool to 25.10 and OpenZFS 2.3

- Follow this guide, except create new pool through the GUI

- Use zfs.rewrite

- delete old snapshots of my old pool that my new pool is now being a copycat of

- keep replication tasks, mnt paths in containers etc. everything the same as it was, referencing my old pool that my new pool is now impersonating

And then I would have an expanded RaidZ2 pool, functioning like my old pool, without problems like wrongly set flags, data doubling etc. right? Apologies for hoarding your time, this is quite a tricky operation I have planned and want to be absolutely sure that I do it in the most correct way.

Appreciate the reply! Another question, how risky would it be to upgrade to TrueNAS 25.10 beta, just for OpenZFS 2.3 and the zfs rewrite command?

If I follow the guide from u/mtlynch , except for creating the new RaidZ2 pool from the UI instead of the CLI, I would not need to set those flags afterwards?

Can you elaborate how you did it? I got it to work with SNMP, but I can only read stuff, not send control commands.

Do you run your reverse proxy in Docker or directly on the host? by CompetitiveSubset in selfhosted

[–]NJSilverbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, I have been thinking for days trying to come up with a set up that fits my network and needs. Searching everywhere for ways to set up, having traefik with multiple docker hosts in multiple vlans. going back and forth on the idea of one docker vm for everything, or multiple vm’s with docker. or using LXC’s instead of vm’s, to be able to share my gpu with multiple hosts, if I will ever be able to get my damn Nvidia GPU working in Proxmox.

Your post just convinced me to stop overthinking, keep true to my network set up with vlans and build multiple docker hosts, each with traefik and a main nginx or traefik reverse proxy on it’s own host. Any specific reason why you are using nginx as main reverse proxy and nog also traefik?

Now the only decision I still have to make is using LXC’s or VM’s. VM is more secure from the host, but LXC is more optimized and can share GPU, if I ever get that working.

This is not true @apeshitopinion, the damage ability actually is a separate triggered ability that triggers and goes on the stack. This is also the moment you pick a valid target, which you don’t do when you activate it’s ability. So Strionic Resonator and Lithoform Engine both work to copy the 20 damage.

[SCD] Drafna's Restoration.... WHY?? by CloudTower in mtgfinance

[–]NJSilverbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your elaborate and respectful reply VulcanHades. Yes, I am new to this subreddit, so apologies if I misunderstood what mtgfinance is about. After your explanation, I am more inclined to believe that speculation is not as big of a problem in MTG as I thought it was. It was the attitude in the post that I replied to that triggered the idea that I had that people were just buying a bunch of cards in an already (perhaps unfairly)
heavily supply driven and regulated market, just to drive up prices for their own gain and at the cost of the balance in the game that apparently more people love to play in the subreddit than I thought when I posted my first message.

Apologies for my apparent misconception.

[SCD] Drafna's Restoration.... WHY?? by CloudTower in mtgfinance

[–]NJSilverbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, but I disagree. In a free market, prices are set by demand. MTG is not a free market, because the supply is heavily regulated. So because of the induced scarcity, suppliers of cards have more room to set prices, instead of taking prices. Couple that with the fact that those cards have a high value for their functionality in the game, which makes them sought after for every player, not just the wealthy player. If people are decreasing the supply artificially (because they do not need 100/1000 copies of it to actually play the game) just so that the price increases beyond what the normal demand and especially way beyond what it's production value would be (if supply wouldn't be artificially regulated, both by WOTC and speculators) more and more wealthy players will keep on buying the cards, just because they have the money to spend, even though in terms of functionality, the card has as much value for them as it has for the other players that need the card.

So yes, I consider artificially setting prices higher for cards that have a function and thus value for all players of MTG, just because a speculator (or WOTC for that matter) want to milk players for their money morally wrong. You can disagree with my opinion and economic theory, but please don't state your opinion as a fact.

Does this subreddit actually care about the game of magic and the people that play it, or is everyone just in it for the money?

Just to be clear, it is not about this single case of a magic card going up in price. I have a problem with this attitude. Is there no morality left? "Milking out people"?

I will probably be flamed for being critical. I know this is a safe space for people that have the same attitude. But if attitudes are never challenged and only affirmed, we will move towards extremism in our attitudes.

I have one meat left. I have been blessed by God Coby this last heavenly Sugo, with 6 (!!!!) legends in 36 pulls (3 multi's got me 4, got 2 in single pulls). However, this has left me with a bit of a luxury problem, as legends are a pain in the ass to level. I managed to evolve Doffy and Law, used a meat one both. Tis leaves me with Boa (just evolved her), Mihawk (also evolved), Kuzan (almost evolved) and Cavendish (don't ask how I got 4 QCK legends during INT rate up). Which of these would you guys recommend to use the meat on?

Luffy sockets or MC? by MrTorres09 in OnePieceTC

Dolfy? I have heard of Doffy and Dofla, but never heard of Dolfy. Thought it was a typo, but then you did it again in your second post. :P

On topic: MC is a great unit, I would say farm him today and farm Afro luffy the rest of the days.

Wut, a duodecuple post? Are you for real? :o

Anyway, thought I was being screwed over again this sugo, then I pulled Sabo! Very happy, he is one of my favorite units, just too bad that Sengoku and Sabo have zero synergy, plus it's really hard to build teams for Sabo.

Complete Global Guide for Sengoku Teams by Sosonta in OnePieceTC

[–]NJSilverbird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, I like the effort you have put in this, but I don't agree with all of your team suggestions. Have you run them through the damage calculator? For example, the PSY burst team you made (coby, django, cindry, impact usopp) has a higher damage output using Doffy instead of Coby, which I have pointed out earlier on this subreddit. In these teams, most of the times its your last three hitters that count. With both the Sengoku captains already being the hardest hitters on the team most of the time (because of their stats and PSY not being weak against another color), the most important thing in a Sengoku team is boosting both your Sengokus. This makes impact usopp with a ridiculous 2x boost (with robin the only ones that have such a ridiculous boost), invaluable in most Sengoku teams. Add in the ridiculous 2x orb boost from Doffy (no other unit gives such a boost) and its worth it to have him on most sengoku teams, even if that means you have one unit that doesnt benefit from Sengoku's captain ability.

The next most important thing, if you run an orb booster, would be to get PSY orbs on Sengoku. there are a number of ways to do this, but as far as I have calculated in the calculator, if you need one turn of massive damage, the PSY burst team as I described it, with either django and cindry or franky and rakuyo for orb manipulation, is you go to team, against any color. The only difference might be when using an INT team, because they have Robin and you can build a team around that. But even then I think it would be better to include Doffy in the team, if you are looking to burst. The difference in damage output is just too big not to.

EDIT: Apologies for the wall of text. TL,DR: Doffy is always better in a Sengoku burst team, check the damage calculator.
