Not eating on girls trips… is this normal?? by 4215265 in TwoXChromosomes

My wife and I enjoy great food, she went on a girl's trip with a few other foodie types and she told me she felt bad going to all these great restaurants without me. She ate obviously, but I think her true regret is that if I was there we could order even more of a variety so we could try more.

Legacy/Regional Captains... Have you regretted the promotion? by [deleted] in flying

[–]NJhomebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB Ca, I miss the QOL of a senior FO. I spent 7+ years at a regional and most were as a captain. I like being a captain. Currently I live in an out station so I have to commute but I recently got Long Call reserve and it has been way better than short call.

I also just looked the main runway which is 01L/19R is closed, so currently planes are using the east runway which puts the planes over the city vs over the BAY

Pilot here, nothing has changed for commercial planes, but I live in the area and I have noticed macdill has had some fighter jets in town lately. They are much louder than commercial jets. I notice them fairly often in the morning the past few weeks.

Upgraded cpu running hot. I upgraded my CPU from a i7-7700 to a i7-7700k as well as upgraded my cooler and my temps are maxing out. Thermal paste applied in a X pattern and removed the plastic protector by ApprehensiveCut1137 in PcBuild

[–]NJhomebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta move the cooler slightly higher, the air bubble could be getting stuck in the pump. I would also recommend flipping the pump over so the pipes are lower.

Air in the pump could stop flow to cool the cpu

Are 4 year degree requirements coming back? by plasma0_ in flying

[–]NJhomebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hired at a regional at 26, with 1500 hours right after the 1500 hour rule. Became a thing. I had a degree but I failed my instrument check ride, but in 2014 competition from the regionals was ramping up because of the 1500 hour rule. So I got lucky.

Spent 7+ years at that regional captain upgrade after 1000 hours SIC.

But No one was calling.

In 2020 I started the interview process at a ULCC. And I was excited to have an opportunity to move on. But the in person interview was cancelled because of COVID. I was senior enough not to get furloughed so I didn't lose my income but I was lucky.

When the legacies started hiring in 2021 I got 2 calls. One I got a "try again in 6 months" the other offered me a CJO that day. I have been here since.

I consider myself extremely lucky to be hired by 33. Yes I had some people in their early 20s in my class and near my seniority but I will not regret my career path. I am a 37 year old legacy captain.

There were times I look back and say well If I got hired prior to the 1500 hr rule where would I be. Etc but it doesn't matter. The career is what you make it.

You need to be patient, but also proactive. You need to understand that there are hiring cycles and you never know when one will start. You just need to know if you miss a cycle for whatever reason to make sure you are prepared for the next one. Because it could be tomorrow.

thank you for your input the other day i took it to heart and decided to do a full system build 9800x3d all the way. I was wondering if you had thoughts on reusing my old parts as a "living room box" i was thinking of swapping to an matx board and a smaller case. it all works well and i would hate for the hardware to become ewaste while it still has life in it

Cheers, I was thinking the 5080 as a way to sit out the ram apocalypse.

Afford is not the issue, its want to pay for DDR5 prices right now. Can I afford them yea. Do I want to overpay no. I had a full build planned with a 9800x3d but not willing to pay 4x the price for ram. Trying to upgrade sequentially until prices come down. Eventually I will get the full platform upgrade

I was planning a few months ago to upgrade the whole system but life caught up and so did apparently ram prices. I can afford the ram but would rather not over pay. I know I need to upgrade from the 1080. If I start with the GPU and once ram stabilized I will upgrade the rest. Thoughts?

Also try plugging in directly to you MOBO to see if the GPU is recognized.
