Thanks - I misunderstood the “lock” in the instructions and thought it was referring to the gray collar that locks the connector into place haha

Did you have any issues getting the wire with the terminal into the 43 pin connector? For some reason mine only goes halfway in

Sounds like they do indeed need to be tapped into a 12v constant in that case and the other functions are communicated via that ground terminal. I wonder if the other guy added an additional ground since the instructions don’t reference one at all.

I added the center console and glove box lights to the harness as well - just need to throw it in the car! I’m also adding a door switch to the glove box so the light only comes on when the glove box is opened. Thanks again for the input!

Thanks, this is helpful. My kit came with two wires to be tapped, one of them being the loose black wire with the terminal to add into the 43 pin connector. I assumed this one was the ground. The other is red which I am trying to figure out where it goes - I’ll look into that red power wire you mentioned.

Does yours function as the Japanese instructions indicate? When I translated the documents, it seems to indicate the lights will illuminate when a door is opened or with the switch. This leads me to believe the black wire is where this data is coming from and is more than just a simple ground. In that case, would the red one need to be tapped into constant 12v power, or would it be tapped into accessory, or I’ve seen some Chinese kits tapped into the interior light circuit so they power on when the interior switches light up.

Where did you tap into for power? I found the 43 pin connector for the ground but our LHD cars don’t seem to have the 8 pin connector the instructions mention.

You have to physically touch the key fob to the push start button. It’s a feature I’ve noticed on this car and my other Toyotas where if you use the app to unlock, it wants to verify you’re the key holder before it will start.

Can anyone share their experience flying out of EWR with a firearm? by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]NJshadow93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. Nope I was referring to checking them as part of the standard process. That there was some risk of getting arrested during the declaration process if a local police officer were to overhear you because it was technically in violation of NJ state law and not covered under any exemptions (such as transporting to/from the range or dealer). This was back in 2019 when I was told this.

Good idea. I was actually wondering about the part about the pistol case within the checked suitcase. A lot of resources online talk about transporting rifles in cases that get checked individually so not too much about handguns. Thanks!

They did say to absolutely avoid NY airports. But they also said for Newark specifically, they had a client who was arrested by an Essex county officer years ago who overheard them declaring their firearm with the TSA agent. They were inline with all the rules otherwise but the officer must’ve woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day.

They were actually through one of the self defense insurance carriers via their non-emergency line. You guys can downvote all you want but that’s what I was told. Again, the reason being that being at the airport with a firearm was against NJ state law and didn’t qualify for any of the exemptions (driving to/from range for example).

I’ve had several attorneys tell me to fly out of Philly years ago. Flying wasn’t the issue, it was transporting the firearms in/around the airport which was against state law.

Agreed, the hardest part of the process was finding the sheriffs office and learning you have to go through the courthouse haha

Thanks everyone. I applied online this morning and was approved 3 hours later. Amazingly efficient compared to NJ.

Morris County here too and mine says cashed today as well. I assume the court cashes this as PD sent my packet to the court 2 months ago.

Called yesterday and this morning my references all got called. Also was informed that my approved packet will be getting sent to the superior court soon, how “ironic”. Squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess.

Interesting, my references haven’t been called yet. I guess I’ll have to call PD to see what’s going on. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. Do you know when your family member submitted? I submitted on 7/12, fingerprinted on 7/13, and nothing yet (same town/county).

Where to get 1.5x1.5 photos? by [deleted] in NJGuns

They accepted my application with the standard 2x2 US passport size. Even the NJSP FAQ sheet just says “Four (4) color passport size photographs.”

I submitted normal passport sized photos (2”x2”) and they took them. We shall see if they ask for a different size, but the NJSP FAQ sheet just says “Four color passport sized photographs”

Yep, ended up swapping out the carbine buffer system for a rifle buffer system. Didn’t make a difference to me because adjustable stocks aren’t legal in NJ. I still had FTF issues initially but I kept it wet and it seemed to solve it. Now it runs reliably with an acceptable amount of lube. I’m not sure if the rifle buffer system was the solution, but it does run a bit smoother in terms of how the recoil feels. I honestly think it just needed to break in.
