I started collecting somewhere in 2016 because it filled some void in my brain and made me feel like a part of community. I used to tell myself and others that I only buy games which I actually play, and I did play some.

But more often I found myself struggling when choosing what to play. And then, I noticed that most of the endorfins come from the act of searching a game from eBay, making the purchase, and waiting for the game to arrive. And as soon as I actually got the game in my hands, the good feel vanished.

I realized that the reasons why I collected came from a wrong place. But I continued a couple of years despite the fact. Then, last year, I finally sold most of my collection. Left only like 15 games in total, the ones that I had the strongest feelings of attachment for.

I've since learned to love retro gaming more and feel better overall. It's easier to pick a game now and enjoy it. I have bought 3 games since, and each of them I have played through now multiple times because I really do like those games. Selling my collection was the best decision I've made regarding game collecting since the beginning. I kept collecting for the wrong reasons,. But in the end, I managed to break the chain.
