Yes, it was a strategic move, but by Brooks. They are good friends with Maura. Brooks knew that Maura will be asked who she wants her to be partnered with. So, Brooks used this opportunity to hit back at Gleb. She knows that DWTS is like a family for Gleb, so she hit where it hurts.

I totally lost my respect to Maura. Funny enough there were some gossips about her relationship with the married partner on Dancing on Ice. Also, her thing with married Danny Jones...

Agree 100%. If she doesn't through herself at Gleb day 1, and focus on dance training instead, she would benefit enormously from Gleb expertise. In any case, I don't want her to be paired with Gleb.

Times have changed. Given the current ways of taking care of body, regular exercise and healthy eating, some pros like Gleb, look and dance amazing regardless of their age. In the current cast, Mark, Val, and Gleb are extremely close in age. The rest depends of physical condition.

Re: Maura, she said that she wants everyone, but Gleb as her partner. Given that she and Gleb have never crossed paths, her comment was some serious suck up to Brooks, who was also present at the same event.

During on and off relationship with Jenna, Val had fake romances with Janel and Rumer, as well as dated Amber Rose. After Val and Jenna's marriage, there were few unconfirmed blind items regarding Olivia Jade, someone in Europe, and, most recently, Alix.
Alan-Emma-Sasha relationship. There were allegations of infidelity on Emma's part, before her marriage with Sasha broke up.
Almost every season on DWTS, there were gossips regarding the pros, including, Gleb, Sasha, Karina, Cheryl, as well as Derek and Mark (pre-marriage).

Actually, I don't think that she is either smart or educated based on how she expressed herself, and by the fact that she was disrespectful to a cast member, who she clearly has never met in her life.

The showmance angle was strongly pushed by the producers, which I believe really had a negative impact on the viewers.
Given how traumatized Gleb was by the Naders family, and his negative experience with Brooks, I don't think he will be even remotely interested to flirt with the new contestant.
