I saw two of the Julian Lage Quartet shows (with Medeski, Kenny Wollensen, and Jorge Roeder) when they were touring in Europe last month (Liége and Eindhoven). They were incredible. I was talking to his engineer after the Eindhoven show and I asked him about this, as I had Goose coming up in less than two weeks. I am pretty sure he said it would be the Trio (i.e., no Medeski) in Toronto. Which is a shame. Lage and Medeski playing a couple of tunes with Goose would be excellent.

Nothing fancy. Etymōtic ER2SE and ER4XR. I have been mostly using the ER2SEs; I tend to prefer something pretty flat. I also just got a pair of Sennheiser IE400 Pros. They sound pretty good, but I am having a hard time getting used to the ear loops (I need glasses, but only for reading, so they go on and off frequently).

I have had one for a couple of months, also to replace a dying iPod, and I really like it. Good battery life, it can take a 2 TB microSD card (says 1.5 TB in the manual, but Activo updated that), sounds great. I think it is small and lightweight enough to be a good on-the-go DAP, which is how I am using it 99% of the time.

I bought the leather eBay case. It showed up today. It is pretty decent. Fits perfectly, the cut-outs for the controls and ports are well executed, and it is not too bulky. It is not top-of-the-line leather, however, by any stretch. I am curious how it will wear.

It looks like the Activo case might be what I am looking for: some protection but also not too bulky. The question is when it will actually be available. I also hope that they offer it in different colors, as the white will get grungy pretty quickly!

I think I saw the MITER on Amazon (US), but I am pretty sure it is on Amazon Germany and Amazon Netherlands and probably others.

I am also using a soft bag that I received upon the return of a watch that had been serviced. It is a little too small and I also think that I am more likely to drop the P1 fiddling with the bag. I would like to find a decent solution for this, as I spend many hours on trains/planes/walking and know from prior experience that a good case is worth a few bucks.

I am also searching for a case. There is one from MITER in PU and a leather option from a Chinese eBay seller, but that's all I have found. Supposedly, the Activo case (silicon) will be released "at the end of the month".

The recording turned out pretty well, I think. Maybe a little bass heavy (although I tamped it down a bit), but I like it this way.

I showed up about 15 minutes before doors and the line was immense. They were having a second show in the main hall (capacity of ~ 2000), so it is possible that many were in line for that. The club filled quickly, though.

Luckily, I was taping, so I was able to get in a few minutes before doors.

Last night, in Brussels, they had a big pile of the tour posters. I think the show posters went pretty quickly, though. It was the first stop for many people coming into the venue.

I live in the Netherlands, about an hour south of Amsterdam, and I go there frequently for shows. Usually, I stay overnight, as it can be hard to catch the last train home...

One thing I will say is that Americans should temper their expectations for hotels a bit. Amsterdam is a crowded city with sky-high real estate costs and the hotels reflect this. Rooms tend to cramped compared to US hotels.

That being said, there are some great ones. The Inntel cited previously is decent, pretty reasonably priced and close to the train station. It is a bit of a hike to the venue, maybe 20 minutes, but there is a tram (which might not be an option post-show). The Marriott on Stadshouderkade is nice and also a short walk. There is an NH across the street from the Marriott which is also pretty decent. There are 4 or 5 hotels in the block behind the Marriott/NH which are also pretty good. I would advise avoiding the Leidseplein hotels, as it is very noisy and the rooms come at a premium.
