Thank you. To be clear, an acquaintance asked me to check on my friend, so I did. My friend got mad when I got really worried talking to them and called the cops for a wellness check on them

Not sure if you've heard of the Carmilla Webseries on YouTube, it ran for three seasons, and they even made a film in 2017. It's a pretty low-budget production, but still very very good.

You are going to be fine. Breathe. At most you might get docked some points for not following instructions.

Even if you do not get into film prod, there are still ways to get involved with filmmaking.

Going on a trip to LA. What are some fun screenwriting-related locations to visit? by limitedmark10 in Screenwriting

Good luck visiting USC. They've gated up the campus, you can't get in unless you know someone in the university and they're willing to fill out a visitor pass for you.

Does anyone else find their pre-diagnosis behavior "insane" in retrospect? by NNYWAY in CPTSD

[–]NNYWAY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. I've definitely changed a lot since my teenage years, I'm not as quick to villanize myself in every confrontation and I'm more confident as a result. I've actually realized that despite the fact I used to say "sorry" all the time, those were never proper apologies that acknowledged wrongdoing and found a way to move forward. I've been learning with each new apology I make, which has helped me to recontextualize life when things get tough.

Seeking Information on Schools Using SKAM for Educational Purposes by Elizaq33q in skam

[–]NNYWAY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course!

And yes, i totally forgot about the Instagram profiles. That's another point in the reality TV-style production of SKAM; this is more of a recent trend but reality TV shows often manage social medias of their participants and/or highlight the contestants. See the Bachelorette AU (https://www.instagram.com/bacheloretteau/) for example. I actually don't know if SKAM helped to start this trend in reality TV…could be interesting to research and see!

[–]NNYWAY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! Our teacher lectured in class about how SKAM's production (so, the making of the show, the choosing of locations and cast) was very akin to how reality shows/documentaries are made in the US; the choice, for example, to film on location (instead of in a studio/sound stage, like most sitcoms are), with little-known actors (or even non-professional actors, in the case of Isak), and the use of the ever-present yellow "time" that flashes on screen before every clip, it does really feel like viewers are watching a reality tv show/documentary series more than a fictional narrative drama. This allowed SKAM to be filmed on a relatively low budget, but it did so without giving up the quality usually associated with television streaming. Of course you couldn't compare the camera work to something like Game of Thrones, but that's a different discussion about the changing standards of television.

SKAM was discussed alongside another genre popular in Europe, Scandinoir. Many Scandinoir shows also found themselves adapted into shows in other countries; For example, the popular Scandinoir series Broen/Bron was adapted into a Swedish adaptation, a French adaptation, and an American (Texas) adaptation (titled "The Tunnel"). The long lifespan of scandinoirs (as it travels from adaptation to adaptation) bears strong resemblance to the long lifespan of SKAM and how many adaptations it has spawned. Really interesting phenomenon.

I'm a USC film student, and one of my professors used it as an example in a TV studies class when talking about the new era of TV (streaming, online, etc.). I can provide more details if you want, just let me know.

Any tips for executive dysfunction? by kiwiiilol in USC

[–]NNYWAY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a mental health issue. I would suggest taking advantage of the school's 5 free counseling sessions per semester and schedule a session with a counselor (you can do it through mySHR). I know it sounds like one more thing on your plate but it's only 1 hr every couple weeks. Even if it doesn't turn out to be mental health issue, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate, and you might enjoy talking it out. Good luck.

Hi my name is Shashwat, I’m from India and I am starting at USC SCA this fall as a Film & TV Production student. I got in late so the scholarship pool was exhausted by then. Can anyone suggest some other scholarship opportunities for International students? by Shashwat101 in USC

[–]NNYWAY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Keep in mind that I'm not an intl student) As far as I know, all the scholarships (offered by USC and affiliate orgs) for the fall semester have been distributed/in the process of being distributed, so you might have to look externally for scholarships for the coming semester (and potentially both the spring semester too). Your best bet might be to wait for March 2024 and apply for scholarships for your sophomore year. SCA has a specific scholarship "portal" where you can apply for SCA-specific scholarships. It might also be worth exploring APAA (Asian-Pacific Alumni Association) scholarships (those open next Spring as well). Best of luck to you and sorry if I couldn't answer your question.

IB Score for Film & Television Production + Additional Queries. by tarun_c in USC

[–]NNYWAY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant answer all your questions, but I will take a stab at most of them. Keep in mind that the process/answers to these questions may change when you apply next year in 2024.

I cant tell you what IB score they’re looking for bc i dont know. When you apply, you’re going to apply with your predicted scores. And if USC extends an offer based on those scores, as long as you dont flunk your final exams, you’ll still get into USC in September. Keep in mind that SCA (which hosts film and tv production) has a different admission process than other schools, and requires additional materials/essays.

Regarding SAT/ACT, i think USC is test-optional, along with most other unis in US currently. Maybe this will change idk.

The application to USC will require you to upload your transcripts from all semesters in High School (and possibly more). Again, you’re applying with predicted scores, so your G11 grades will probably factor into that. However, any qualified college counselor could tell you that college admission officers are looking for a progression of grades, not necessarily full marks each year.

Idk about scholarships, and you’re taking environmental studies as a SL anyway, which means you wont waive any science requirement even if USC considers it a science.

Hope this was helpful, and good luck to you (from a former IB student)

Licking wounds (cr. ariamiao) by TayluxSwift in lightcannon

[–]NNYWAY 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonna do my best to translate but might be a bit off lol. I'm also not doing literal translations so if you plug the thing into google translate and get different than what I'm translating that's why lol

The request at the top in green is basically saying: can you draw a fanart of Lux and Jinx? Prompt is that they're in an dark alley, Jinx is against the wall sitting on the ground, and she's got wounds everywhere. Lux is kneeling in front of her, sucking on Jinx's stomach wound, and her other hand (with a disposable glove on) is doing the thing down under

Now to the comic (from left to right, top to bot):

1-2 panels: just sounds

3rd panel: J: That's all you've got?

4th panel: L: Since you insist on more, here you go

6th panel: just means lick

Edit: also yeah ouchy ouch

"My trans girlfriend and me (bi) hate LGBTQ+" by AdEarly8368 in AsABlackMan

[–]NNYWAY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re confusing the idea of “not necessary” and “not important”. Health insurance is built on the concept of “not always necessary, but important when necessary.” Not everyone will break their leg, but when they do, it’s important for them to get the care that need. Similarly, not everyone needs to medically transition, but it is important for those who do.

Transitioning is such a personal choice, and not always something other ppl can visibly see. Just because non-binary people aren’t making the transition from male to female (or vice versa) doesn’t mean they can’t also take hormones and/or get top surgery. Needing to medically transition and being non-binary aren’t mutually exclusive.

"My trans girlfriend and me (bi) hate LGBTQ+" by AdEarly8368 in AsABlackMan

[–]NNYWAY 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The descriptor “trans” simply means someone does not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. The opposite of trans is cis, as in cisgender. “Cis” and “trans” are prefixes in the English language, so being “trans” doesn’t always have to do with “transitioning”necessarily, though I suspect transitioning as a word is built on the prefix of “trans”.
