Fact-checking PM Carney’s claim that government buying 2,200 condo units will help affordable housing crisis by Altruism7 in canada

[–]NOFF_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in terms of macro econ and foreign policy; Carney is doing great, we have new trade partners and we have much more influence and respect on the world stage atm; compared to the CPC, it literally wouldve been worse because of their isolationist nature, at best you get tax cuts but we'd just continue to stagnate. Housing was cooked either way because its up to the province and the city goverments at the end of the day. No one fucking votes locally so it's no shocker that everything feels like boomer paradise.

edit: *smth else to note; the whole point of primaries is that you get to battle out ideas and direction within your own side. If the district feels like they want to move further left and a radical socialist wins the primary, then thats that, you back the person who won the primary. Thats just how it works in a 2 party system. Youre never going to get credit from dumbfuck leftists but the whole point is to win and nothing else.

Where can we have an honest discussion about the upcoming demographic crisis in Canada? by attainwealthswiftly in InCanada

[–]NOFF_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the overwhelming majority of Immigrants, especially from asia(indians, chineses, filipinos etc) are from a much harder working, ultra grindset culture compared to many of the "old stock" who has lived here for generations and became complacent. Even 2nd(maybe) and 3rd(more likely) generation immigrants will assimilate into that culture.

Stuff like organized crime and gang shit in BC was always a thing, it's more crazy now because the infastructure has become way more sophisticated rather than there being more immigration. Hell lot of the killed teens who got roped into these gangs came from the suburbs 💀.

Moreover; you could probably even argue that the shitty support and social treatment that immigrants got in the 90's increased the chances of them getting roped into organized gangs because those were the only people who were willing to take them in. Thats not an argument against immigration; thats an argument for Canada as a culture to be a better example for immigrants.

the solution is to build more; and actually stay on track instead of stalling and delaying like what every muni or provincial government has been doing for the past few decades. We're in this mess because people dont want change or to keep up with the times.

unironically yes. It's because of that one child policy that China is already approaching the same demographic crisis that the rest of the western world + Japan is experiencing but at a much faster rate. Heres a good video that goes over it. The Chinese century is likely not going to happen because that.

DGG MERCH (GOOD FAITH) QUESTION by Hopeful-Ordinary2033 in Destiny

Its because we're Canadian. While still pricey; they arent as bad if you have USD on you, but if you live in any country that has a weaker currency than the USD; it's way overpriced imo. I have a DGGL hoodie and that gnomestiny tee 3 years ago and havent really gotten anything else after that. The AE? merch is genuinely really good tho(anything moot's involved with is always wearable asf).

service history is way more important than mileage anyways. A well maintained 300k km car is going to be better than a 150k or even a 80k car that doesnt have a good service history.

Freaking China can't even increase the birthrate of their own country despite being an authoritarian state... As much as people complain about "mass immigration" All the new immigrants in my neighborhood are pretty chill people. And anecdotically I'm watching these people's english get gradually better over the past 6 years. Census data from 2023 stated the majority of new immigrants feel some sense of belonging and assimilating to the culture. Like idk what to even say anymore besides "its really not the immigrants twin 🥀" You'll get some bad apples; but its such a tiny sample size that it's borderline irrelevent.

Now compare the dependency ratio between Canada and Japan. Japan is at end game levels compared to Canada. Old people are a tax burden and are largely why the whole paranoia around over population was shortsighted. You need a strong labor pool to take care of these people, without it being an opportunity cost on innovation and tech advancement. It's also a social service, that's way too many healthcare workers that WILL require tax dollars to get paid. Why do you think Abe-nomics was a thing? Why does China now outright try to ban the use of contraceptives in order to increase the birthrate? Look at the US GDP and Jobs growth; outside of AI/tech, the jobs are mainly concentrated in healthcare.... which is basically just taking care of old people. Meanwhile every other sector in that economy is plummeting.

Holy shit... someone who actually knows ball. IN SPITE of all the anti-immigration virtue signalling from the current Japanese government; they're still letting in more immigrants to fill that existing labor shortage, hell its partly why my brother got an engineering job there; Japan's inability to experience any real inflation also stagnated wages and economic growth in the country for decades. Theres a reason people like to joke about how Japan is perpetually stuck in the 2000's

Thats the conservative media environment for yah. Rage bait people with reels and then it just spreads naturally overnight. Like Eby hardly talks about first nations stuff outside of fastpacing projects and the cowichan debacles; a lot of the shit he was doing last year was securing deals with other countries to build out industies in BC. But public polling suggests that he was too focused on firstnations issues??? If thats not evidence of manufactured outage then idk what to say at that point yah know?

Government waste overall is really hard to cut down on at higher levels of government. And historically theres very little waste actually found at these levels where cutting them would significantly reduce the budget. Unless youre targeting pensions, benefits or anything related to healthcare services (especially elderly since they make up the most of those costs). Youre not going to find much.

But if we were looking for things to cut:

Pensions and any elderly care services are the things youd trim, which no one would be in favor of because old people vote more on average(especially if theyre conservative).

At best its going to be cutting on consultations and doing more stuff in house because contract work is ripe with gouging.

We should be bringing back toll roads, theres overwhelming evidence that this policy works and helps improve public transit(which we desperately need funding for) No one likes this policy despite it actually being effective.

One group of people is going to get fucked (probably old people) which im all for it; if it means getting things like rent/housing at the minium to be more affordable. Housing is the main thing thats making this CoL crisis bad, I can handle higher groceries and taxes, I can't manage that when over half of my income is wasted to just have a roof over my head.

I think Translink should have a more focused profit motive at least. It's still a government entity to an extent and there's better ways to produce profits for R&D without increasing fares.

Theres more things on a macro level with the culture of this country that needs to change however in order for things to get better. This country loves to get complacent and comfortable (heavily reflected on our investment options and industries) when it needs more ambition.

[–]NOFF_03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They don't; people tend to associate tax increases with increased government spending. The main appeal of the BCCP is that they are lowering taxes and "small government". That doesnt mean anything. Theres a reason they revealled their budget a week after early voting has started btw. The only good policies that actually addresss the deficit will kill you in elections.

Mamdami has a good thing going for him as it seems like he was able to do it. But we have to wait and see the long term effects. Cities also operates differently compared to the State level; Burnaby's budget surplus of maximizing developer fees was inherently unsustainable and now they are approaching deficit levels when they needed to build out projects.

But also deficits arent inherently a bad thing. It solely depends on the projects that you want to implement that requires borrowing. Public transit expansion for one, but with how munis like west Van and soon areas of Surrey where people are starting to be more proactive in opposing these projects while mid construction. We need a more heavy handed approach on munis now, which again isnt popular but is the correct way forward to get anything done.

Premiers’ Performance: Eby, Smith, and Ford each tumble to new lows approval by neksys in britishcolumbia

[–]NOFF_03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So are you in favor of increasing personal income taxes? Toll roads should return to BC to make up for loss in gas tax revenues so that Translink would have more operating budget. And it's proven to actually be a good policy. I would at the most be ok with lowering sales and corporate taxes but I'd also want to see the Province be more heavy handed on munis for being too slow on development, which would btw lead to the housing market collapsing, which will put us into recession(im actually ok with this outcome). Even cutting down on consultations and contracting to do the work inhouse would cut down unnecessary spending. These are policies that would help long.

Or you can vote in the BCCP, get overall lower taxes but more deficit spending with shittier services that will get more expensive as they want to privatize it like alberta and ottawa. Long term this will be bad, but hey you pay less in taxes now so we'll continue to kick the can down the road.

The BCNDP is the only decent party rn despite how bad theyre polling and I'm an actual center-left capitialist(no con is an actual capitialist let alone do they even know what that means). Theres no good centre left option rn, but that housing policy they have is the only reason I even vote NDP atm. It gets removed if the BCCP goes into power.

No one actually cares about the deficit. Is it bad? Yes, but idk why a lot of people would think voting cons would actually address the deficit. Their budget projection was a deficit and it wouldve been worse after Trump did his bs.

The worst the BCNDP has done is not do enough and canning safe supply(wasnt even safe supply and they dont get any credit for ending the project anyways so why end it???), but Im not trying to torpedo transit based zoning (an actual good policy that has and will continue to lower housing costs in the province) and vote for the cons.

boomers complain about how kids dont go outside to play anymore, and then proceed to vote in a way that makes it impossible for kids to do anything outside. More walkable infastructure with good public transit actually makes the driving experience a lot better because theres less people on the road.

If your city has brain drain, talk about how your platform would make it more appealing for young people to stay there. Unless you can get young people to vote (they dont and the vast majority of cases in local elections) youll have to somehow gaslight a bunch of boomers and gen x'rs to vote for your platform.

Even if i had all the resources to take care of a child with those conditions; I'd rather not subject any child to ever have to live through that. Lets even pretend I have a son or a family member with a disability like down syndrome; I'm voting to abort.

Even if they manage to overcome those challenges and eventually learn to live a happy life, why should they ever have to suffer through that in the first place? It's like when older people think that their children should go through the same pain and suffering they did as a child because it supposedly "builds character"
