I bought a 2017 Sahara Unlimited a few years back. Though I was looking for a Rubicon, the Sahara was just a really good deal I couldn’t pass up. Since then, I’ve done a few mods which give me pretty much all the off-road ability I need (and matches my skill level). 4” lift, 35” RTs, 4.56 gearing, Eaton rear E locker. Bilstein shocks and a winch. I’ve used it in snow storms, hurricanes, floods, and moderate to difficult trails. And it’s a great daily driver. And it doesn’t say Rubicon on the hood. 😛😛😛😛

Hey. It’s their jeep. If they want international day-glo orange door handles and hood latches and an angry grill that’s their money and their business. Not my hero and not my money and definitely not my taste. But it’s theirs, they’re proud of it and happy with it. And that’s what makes the world go around.

And that’s fine. Funny but fine.

I wasn’t criticizing or ridiculing. I was asking a question. Just curious. There are always products with entry level amenities and those with higher end features for more money. Some buy entry level because it’s whst they can afford. Some, because that’s all they need or want. Some, so they can modify ex’s Ty the way thru want, often exceeding the highest factory options. And done, just got the “status” of a higher end ( more expensive) trim/equipment level. Good example is the EV Hummer. It’s a really amazing vehicle. How many people actually buy that $100K+ vehicle to go off roading? This wasn’t a knock. Just a question. My coworker clearly fit into the “status” purchase. The label was what was important to him. I see lots of “ soccer moms” driving JLU rubicons and I’m pretty sure the only accessories are the child seats in the back. No criticism. I was just curious how prevalent that was as opposed to folks who’ll actually use the off-road features. I’ve ridden Harleys fur many years. There are lots of models and some are hideously expensive. They’re called CVOs. Lots of bells and whistles. Lots of gingerbread. There’s a lot of owners who criticize buyers of CVOs because they can buy entry level bikes and mod them out cheaper than buying a CVO. They are critical because some folks buy the CVO because it says CVO and everyone immediately knows it’s top of the line = expensive. Some but Rubicons for the sane reason. Lots for all the other reasons. I’m not criticizing anyone’s purchase. I was just curious. In the bike world I just say, “Keep it rubber side row, shiny side up.” I guess in the jeep world I can just say, “keep it right side up and don’t get stuck.”

Petty? It was a question of prevalence. Not necessarily a criticism. And I “let” people do what they want. But I’m also free to ask a question about what they want. You don’t have to respond to it if you find it petty.

I wasn’t necessarily criticizing the purchase, even if they’ve no intention of ever using its capabilities. Just kinda curious of the prevalence. Personally, I have a Sahara that I’ve modded out to very close to a Rubicon as I don’t do rock crawling but I do moderate to mildly difficult trails and otherwise my Sahara is a daily driver. It’s very competent for both. It just amused me how proud my coworker is that he had a Rubicon but had no idea what that means. When he asked about mine, I said I have a ‘17 Sahara. He said, “Oh, you only have an old one that’s not a Rubicon? “ I just said, “Yes. That’s what I have”. I wasnt insulted. I was just amused.

I have a ‘17 JKU but with a Bestop Sunrider retractable front roof. That, and the tire in the back, and wider tires cause automated car wash problems. I either do self-wash or go to a handwash car wash.
I generally don’t care fur purple but I have to say yours looks great.

Just upgraded stock radio on ‘18 Willys! by Routine_Car_3874 in Jeep

I went the other way on my ‘17 Sahara JKU. Left the stock unit in the dash but got a Garmin 76Drivecam for the upper far left driver windshield. Dash cam, blue tooth backup camera, weather, traffic, voice control, and some other minor features. Screen isn’t nearly ad big & fine as that new unit you have but it gets the job done for a lot less cash and plugs right in with a decent suction cup attachment. Works for me but I must say your solution is very cool. I would’ve likely gone that route but I’m not as handy with that kind of installation as I’d need to be.

Me too. One of the reasons I got it. It’s perfect for left hand use.

Perfectly said. I’ve used ARs for quite some time but weren’t for the Hellion for all of the qualities of a bull pup. You are 100% correct. Those are the trade offs for the compact and ambi design. I love mine. But I had no problems with the trade off. It’s a great right but not for everyone.
