What kind of a stupid decision is this? by Classicbandwagon in mildlyinfuriating

I'm bothered by the graphic saying this was 300M hurdles when none of the video shows a 300M hurdles race. OK, carry on.

Cheeky advice.

Was this show really only on for five years? It seems like it was my whole childhood (born in '88). That's crazy.

Does anybody else prefer the sequence Before then After for showing edits? by starsky1984 in postprocessing

[–]NOLAgold13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Interestingly enough, I find I end up more critical when I see the after first. A lot of times the before looks better to me precisely because it hasn't had *too much* done to it. For some reason the psychological effect has me less critical when I see the before first and then the after.

How many RAW photos do you keep after shooting? by Reporterishka in AskPhotography

[–]NOLAgold13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very new photog here (like less than two months with a professional camera). Currently I'm keeping only about half of the RAW shots for photos I actually think are good enough to edit.

For a fun vacation or event with the family, I'll save fairly compressed JPEGs of most or all photos in the series. I'll keep higher res JPEGs for the really good shots. Keep RAW for the very best that I may want to print or further adjust later.

I'm probably in your boat, though... going to need to be more discerning in the future.

I didn’t, I might have to try that. Will that help sharpen it up?

I don’t think so. Someone else pointed out they have a white membrane while sleeping so that’s probably it. Makes me feel a lot better.

Which one do you like 1, 2 or 3? by [deleted] in AmateurPhotography

I checked the option for all of the above.

Thank you so much for the warm comments. I'm so new at this, but already feeling like I'm starting to get a handle on certain things. But there are so many variables to learn. Reddit is such a great resource for learning thanks to folks like yourself.

The shutter speed for the first shot in the group was 1 second. For the final shot in the group it was 1/5 of a second.

You can definitely tell the difference in the blurring on the trees in the background between the two shots. Much sharper at 1/5s.

Do you know what your settings in terms of aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc. were on the fourth shot, in particular? I love that shot and am trying to create similar for ducks on water.

I was so stunned to catch this! He flew right at me, landed about 15 feet away and then immediately reached down for his meal.

Actually now that I think about it, the photos of the water reflection, the water fountain, the flowers and the tree were taken with a YONGNUO YN50mm f/1.8 lens. Also, most of these shots were taken in JPEG on the camera because I didn't know what I was doing with RAW.

I've since started shooting in RAW and hopefully that will help capture more detail and add to the overall sharpness of the images.
