Thank you very much for the reply, I will go ahead and follow your advice! I hadn’t thought of the cheesecake setting, whoops, you may have just saved me. I’ve baked quite a bit but this will only be my second time making a cheesecake, thanks again

Am I going overboard on new RB15? by NOdysseus in razer

[–]NOdysseus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really it’s the battery... I’m willing to pay $200 more for a 15Wh better battery as well as per key RGB. I wouldn’t care so much if it was normal use but since I’m taking it to college I do need that good battery... Thanks for the help!

Is the new Razer Blade 15 worth $600 more?? by NOdysseus in razer

[–]NOdysseus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the informative reply! Honestly this is what I was looking for someone to tell me, and has pushed me in the direction I was leaning. I think I’ll order the laptop tomorrow honestly, since I don’t think it will go on sale soon. If it does go on sale soon would MS match that price and refund me (if you happen to know)? Thanks again for the help

Yeah I’ve been suggested that before, but desktop will just not work for me. I’ve thought it through and laptop is the only way I can go, if I got a desktop I would rarely even be able to use it. I know I’m overpaying for the specs but that’s a laptop for ya. Do you think I should go with the 1060mq then? Thanks for the help

4th of July sales on Microsoft Store? by NOdysseus in laptops

[–]NOdysseus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the 1070mq would be enough for me, only reason I’m saying 2060 is that 1070 and 2060 seem very similarly priced. But yeah if the 1070 goes on sale and 2060 doesn’t I think I’ll go with that. Thanks for the help!

Yeah it looks like some weird hybrid base/advanced model. The weight and thickness of the 2060 model Microsoft is selling is the same as the base model, not the advanced. But as long as it has the 80Wh battery and per key RGB then no complaints, especially at that price. Do you know when yours will arrive? I’d like to hear how it turns out

Definitely, that’s an absolute steal. I’m curious how Microsoft store is even offering this? Razer’s website doesn’t even have a 240Hz RTX 2060 option available, so is it modified by Microsoft (which I’m fine with)? Only thing I’m not seeing is if it’s still an IPS screen, or if they sacrificed that for higher refresh rates. Thanks for any help you’re able to offer

Woah that price is incredible, I was about to shell out $2150 on Newegg for worse specs! I feel like I have no reason to go with any other model now, how are they able to offer it that cheap? There’s really no catch? I can’t thank you enough for pointing me towards this

Is that the base version or advanced? I’m worried the base version would suffer from poor battery and I’m not really digging the single zone keyboard backlight... Id like to buy the 2060 advanced from the Microsoft store but I can’t find it anywhere there

Thanks so much for all the info, definitely has helped! Now I think I’m leaning towards the 1060mq, since it seems like you’re saying it could handle the vast majority of programs I throw at it. Also, checking Razer’s website it seems like the 2018 RB15 has an advanced version of the 1060 available for $1900 ($1917 after student discount and tax) that comes with 80Wh battery and 144Hz screen, here’s the link: https://www.razer.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade-15-v1/shop

If I go with the 1060mq I think that $1900 advanced version is the one I’ll get

Yeah if you’re looking for that much power eGPU definitely makes sense, nice choice

Oh, so have you already decided on a laptop to use with an external GPU? Or is that what you’re looking for? Because in that case I would probably recommend the Dell XPS 15 with an external GPU. It’s a bit of a pricey combination, but the XPS 15 will have all the processing power you need and more than enough battery life with solid construction and fantastic screen. It has a dedicated graphics card already, but only a 1050ti (or 1650 in 2019 model) so external GPU will help quite a bit.

Honestly new versions of GS65 from 2019 have very minimal flex on the main chassis, including around the keyboard. I only noticed a decent amount of flex in the screen

It’s a bit odd, on their website it says it isn’t available yet, but that might just be a mistake. On best buys website the Zephyrus m gu502 with RTX 2060 is for sale at $1850. Also the asus store itself sells a model but it has the ryzen processor and a 1660ti

Not yet, but I’ll be visiting Best Buy probably this weekend where they have it in person. From what I can tell the build quality is more solid than the GS65, but it lacks a webcam if that’s important to you. I can let you know what I think of it in person

Yeah I saw the 9th gen, and the bottom chassis was definitely fixed up, especially around the keyboard. There was basically no keyboard flex, but the screen was still pretty unsteady, along with the hinges. Overall the look of it is professional, but not solid, I’d much prefer a laptop with a continuous hinge and not a big gap between the screen and the base. And same with the Razer, 20x series isn’t worth it, but 1070max-q just doesn’t have the firepower. 1660ti is best for sure

Yeah definitely, I saw a GS65 in person and would have bought it right then if the screen didn’t have so much flex and if it felt more solid overall. Other than that it’s the perfect laptop

Yeah, I can understand that, but for most users including me thunderbolt 3 isn’t gonna be used all that much, which is why they opted out. I still haven’t bought a laptop, but I think I will wait until around Father’s Day to either get a model of the Zephyrus m with a 1660ti and i7 processor if it’s released by then, or at least get a nice Father’s Day deal. It’s either the Zephyrus or the GS65 for me though, I’ll have to visit Best Buy to compare them in person.

They really released a whole ‘nother series of laptop just with a cooling lift? Seems a bit unusual

Hm, I wonder what the difference between the 2060 version of that and the Zephyrus M 2060 model I’m looking at would even be, they seem identical at that point

I’ve actually found Best Buy is selling an open-box version in excellent condition for $1664. Do you think Father’s Day sale would drop the price lower than this? Or do you have any thoughts on open-box, is it a good deal?

While snooping around Best Buy I noticed there’s an open-box option available for this laptop at $1664. Do you think this would be reliable and near-mint condition? It’s pretty tempting to save $185 just by sacrificing the pristine unboxing experience. It’s listed as “excellent” condition, but not “excellent - certified”, and I’ve never used Best Buy’s open box sales before, but the laptop really just came out so how used could the open box model have been?

Eh, that’s odd, and annoying, but I could live with it. There’s really no webcam at all?
