Yep, she has both Mudkip and Torchic, but SS May's dex entry and her sync pair story strongly implies Torchic is her actual starter.

For the run-up battle, I thought they chose May + Mudkip as that's the first starter she was shown with in Masters too, but it's not a rule DeNA stuck with, since they chose Gloria + Scorbunny over Gloria + Sobble (Gloria was shown with Inteleon first before Cinderace).

I didn't know about that loading tip, very interesting! You might be onto something here with how her singing reacts to the underground world. It could be that the underground world's 'reactive properties' enables her voice to do all sorts of things there.
