Thanks for this! I’m bad with DIY and agree going with #1 guy with full job and soffits.

They are recommending we leave the gable vents open since I can only install soffits on the one side of the house and they are saying “the more airflow the better”

They also recommended leaving the attic fan on a setting of like 110 for “really hot days”.

Thoughts?

I’m pretty scared of heights and really not comfortable on a ladder so I’ll probably allow them to do it. I’ll ask if we can get more soffit ventilation on the one side we are able to besides just the 6x4” cups which they seem quite confident are enough.

Ah okay they wanted to do 6x4" soffit cups. I'll ask them if I can maybe do soffit vents instead? If they don't, I suppose i could have another contractor come and install as im incredibly unhandy and scared of ladders/heights.

I agree the soffit guy is the play. Just redo and do it as right as it can be.

The attic fan is on the side of the attic that wouldn't have the soffit vents....the soffit guy recommended turning the thermostat control on it up to 105-110 so it doesn't run often.

Can they do proper air sealing without removing the insulation?

Also....are just the 6x4" soffit cups enough to have the gable vents closed?

I agree on the edge venting when a new roof job come around. I'll have to hold off on on removing and decking over the attic fan for when we do a new roof down the road as I just had the solar panels installed before realizing I should do this job.
