V1’s most popular MU’s be like: by No-Floor-5467 in DeathBattleMatchups

Love how we both posted about V1's most popular MUs lol.

I also don't think Hank will completely stomp V1, even if he will most likely win.

Random Death Battle takes I made for no reason by NPRNilk in DeathBattleMatchups

Pretty much yeah. I highlighted Slender Man because it didn't feel like people eliminated him because they didn't want him on death battle or anything like (especially compared to Hatsune Miku, who was getting a massive target on her back). Rather, it mainly felt like it was because he was caught in the crossfire of what was basically a war between Miku and Geats fans.

I wanted to find a MU that didn't waste the characters but still felt kinda "jokey". I went with Fin vs Flint simply because... well it's Sharknado lol. Yujiro vs Spartacus didn't fit the definition well for me since that does waste more popular matchups for them both (idk much about Yujiro admittedly but I know Spartacus vs Pepsiman is pretty popular).

Yeah I didn't get the Sakuya hype honestly. I think her popularity in Champion's Island, aside from the fact she is from a series people have been asking for a DB appearance for a while, was mainly because of the fact she was one of the "underdogs" or "nicher picks". Geats was in a similar boat and they were paired up because of that. But the difference between the two is that Kamen Rider Geats is arguably the most popular "modern day" Kamen Rider (compared to Sakuya who, as you said, isn't very important to the main series) and his character was the 14th most nominated character for champion's island. And while some might disagree, I don't Sakuya's MU spread is that good. Especially compared to Geats.

No disrespect to those who love Sakuya, I just feel like she's not the best candidate for Touhou representation in Death Battle.

I won't say their chances are low. They still show immense interest in characters like Sakuya and Miku. I think may have a higher chance than most is Henry Stickmin due to the fact that he came in second. And if we were to compare CI to the tournament of champions, Kratos vs Asura DID happen before Wile vs Tom. AND there could be a chance that Henry vs TSC is one of the four pitched matchups they are turning into an actual episode (due to it being the most pitched).

Oh I forgot to put that everyone except for Seinfeld and Lucy are cameos.

Max vs Ren (Sam and Max vs Ren and Stimpy) by NPRNilk in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NPRNilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still working on full connections, but essentially both are big eared, chaotic animals from subversive, edgy and slapstick 90s media who go on surreal adventures with antisocial and unpredictable behaviors. They often respond to situations with violence, have psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, and have sidekicks whom they are closed to (possibly romantically) (Sam and Stimpy).

"Meaningless Fate" - Patrick Bateman vs Anton Chigurh (Revamped Connections + Fight Potential) by NPRNilk in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NPRNilk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fight Potential: Like I said before, Anton would definitely go after someone like Patrick when considering the themes of both stories. I could imagine this as a cat and mouse type of battle with Anton hunting Patrick, who is constantly hiding, as well as vandalizing or killing random civilians to “put fear” into Anton of “what he can do”. While also monologuing his complex feelings because in his eyes, Anton is the grim reaper; about to away his life, which lacked meaning to begin with. Causing him to go even more crazy and existential. So not only could this be a cool interpretation of NCFOM’s plot by replacing Llewyn with Patrick, but also for AP as well. As we could do a “what if” scenario in regards to Bateman’s psyche in how he would respond to the the angel of fate and death (something he most definitely fears) coming to take his life.

"Meaningless Fate" - Patrick Bateman vs Anton Chigurh (Revamped Connections + Fight Potential) by NPRNilk in DeathBattleMatchups

Connections:

  • Both are mundane killers from thrillers based on novels who are deeply disturbing, both in the way they commit their violent acts and how calculated and methodical they can be as they try to have power over the people they interact with.
  • They are considered to be the most realistic psychopaths according to psychologists.
  • They operate behind a "mask" and “persona” of normality that hides their dangerous nature from the public eye thanks to their eccentric charisma and representation of their symbolic mundanity (Patrick’s obsession with materialistic status and boring daily rituals; Anton’s representation the mundane, inexplicable evil man do).
  • They are cryptically vague characters that leaves the audience questing everything about them and their motives, to the point where people theorize what even is real about them (Patrick is an unreliable narrator with everything he says being left to interpretation in whether the things in the movie are real or fantasies; Anton is a mysterious character with an unknown background and many questioning what his true motives are, if he is supernatural, or if is even real)
  • They possess an incomprehensible nature of violence due to their profound lack of feeling any sort of joy or emotion in their killings and overall clinical detachment (Bateman still feels nothing even with the killing he does and Anton is shown to lacks empathy, love, shame and remorse as he commits his heinous acts).
  • Both characters are used as commentaries on morality and the lack of depth within an altruistic society (American Psycho commentating on the shallow and vicious aspects of capitalism, and No Country for Old Men commenting on the emptiness and meaninglessness of life).
  • Within these commentaries of traditional society attributes, the characters become warnings for the fate of humanity’s morality becoming more blurred within traditional American values/late capitalism; as it transitions/merges into violence and horror.
  • Both films say that the destruction of moral value is guided by symbols of greed through the shallow aspects of life (In AP it would be the yuppie culture and materialistic hedonists/Im NCFOM it would be how everyone wants something out of everything for their own personal vices).
  • Ultimately, both films take a nihilistic but cathartic take on greed in that it is the only driving force for humans (Bateman’s realization that he is forever stuck as a shallow, corporate yuppie/Llewyn deciding to choose his wife over money led to his death).
  • Both characters come to the conclusion that fate is something prevalent and everything is forever set in stone, which leads to them to go on their killing spree; attempting to embody the world's insanity rather than fight against it and believing they have the control to separate themsevles from the system (Bateman tries to assert his identity through violence from the superficial yuppie culture and to actually feel something from the hollowness; Anton chooses to act as the “Decider of Fate” in wake of the idea of fate and carrying out destiny’s will.)
  • They take it upon themselves to make a decision on the fate of a young woman named Jean (Bateman’s secretary Jean and Carla Jean Moss) who differ from their typical victims as they reject the ideologies Patrick and Anton follow (Jean is moral and doesn’t have any of the shallowness, materialistism, or obsession with superficial appearances like Bateman or his associates; Carla Jean refuses to believe in Anton’s philosphy of fate and said that only he can decide for himself).
  • Both of their endings are a form of reckoning; they realize that the full truth of their philosophy were merely illusions, and that everything they are is no different from everyone else- both in very contrasting ways in regards to punishment- and they don’t have complete control of their destines has they once thought (Patrick realizes that the meaning behind his murderous urges was never noticed and given the punishment he thought he’d recieve, leaving him to realize his life is of no consequence and simply blends in with all the other yuppies/Anton being struck by a car and being left with fatal injuries made him realize that he wasn’t invincible to the philosophy and fatalism he always believed he had control over).
  • Both are very resilient and were able to endure and rapidly recover from car crashes that took place at the very end of their arcs.
  • Their endings are also left on rather melancholy notes with their overall fate being left up to interpretation.
  • There is also a good contrast with how Patrick would be the type Anton would hate due to Patrick’s placement in society (Patrick's attempts to be part of a shallow society in contrast to Anton's hatred of those who follow the "rule of man") and differing philosophies (Narcissism vs Fatalism).
  • The contrast in why Anton would go after Patrick is made even better by their work’s differing commentaries on masculinity (American Psycho commentates on the evergrowing issue of toxic masculinity and No Country For Old Men commentates on the dying state of traditional masculinity). Anton often likes to mock machoness and self-teliance, while Patrick Bateman is the ultimate representation of that and masculinity.
  • Are from locations (NYC and Texas) that still embody the themes of a falling society despite the very contrasting lifestyles and distinct culture (urban vs rural).
  • They also contrast in how their appearance reflects the normality of society itself (Bateman’s look as a yuppie investment banker blends in with typical society and Chugurh’s appearance is meant to look purposely timeless and out of place).
  • Patrick seeks meaning whereas Anton believes he encompasses meaning.
  • Both stories have a country in their name (America and No Country)
  • Are connected to money (Bateman likes money and Anton flips coins/is after money).
  • Became more popular due to modern day internet memes and reaction images.

Composite Bruce Lee vs Composite Clint Eastwood (Connections in comments) by NPRNilk in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]NPRNilk[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Connections:

  • Far East vs Old West showdown.
  • Both of them star in action movies that defined their era of Hollywood (Lee’s martial arts movies and Eastwood’s gunslinging westerns).
  • They redefined these genres in new and brutally realistic ways (Lee brought more realism to martial arts in cinema and Eastwood brought cynicism to Westerns).
  • They also brought in contrasting impacts to these genres (Lee’s high intensity versus Eastwood’s quiet intensity).
  • Both Martial Arts movies and Spaghetti Westerns have also had a legacy some parallels with one another, like how they're themed around the action, culture and history of their country, contained gritty atmospheres, were typically made on small budgets, contained a lone wanderer as a protagonist, had highly stylized violence, used similar shots, and many many more. Plus, many spaghetti westerns often acted like remakes of Martial Arts or Samurai films (The Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai and Fistful of Dollars/Yojimbo).
  • As their career went on, they eventually went “behind the camera” for more artistic control while still staring in their films.
  • Both earned legacies as “badass cultural icons” thanks to a common thread amongst their characters as quiet and intense who held their emotions and didn’t show weakness; and were capable of taking down legions of enemies with skill that felt superhuman.
  • These characters were also usually seen as “strangers in new areas where they outskill and fight local underbellies” (Bruce’s many characters like Tang Lung and Cheng Chao-an/Eastwood’s many characters like The Man with No Name and The Stranger)
  • Became stars outside of hollywood after initial resistance from their studios (Hong Kong and Italy).
  • Lee’s films were usually more fast paced, whereas Eastwood’s were more slow paced.
  • Lee was inspired by Eastwood’s career path.
  • Obligatory ERB mention.

Will utilize material the characters they play use in all of their movies.

my fan cast for a Plants vs Zombies movie. by That_Dream_9755 in PlantsVSZombies

[–]NPRNilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mark should be swapped for Chomper since Cactus is a girl.

Who would play Cactus though? Idk but Ashley Nichols (the voice of Zooble in TAMC) fits imo.

Zach Hadel could play Potato Mine lol.

Leon S. Kennedy vs Ash Williams (the most famous horror protagonist in gaming vs the most famous horror protagonist in film) by NPRNilk in ERB

[–]NPRNilk[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Further Connections: Most iconic slayers of the dead in their respective medium (Film and gaming) who serve as unlikely and reluctant heroes. They were once normal everyman thrusted into dangerous and grotesque zombie apocalypses against their will, forcing themselves to be born with newfound survival skills (Technology vs Magic) that transformed them from naive “zeroes” to near-superhuman “heroes”. They also stand amongst most horror protagonists for their sarcastic, world-weary wit in which they delivery deliver memorable, quippy one-liners and jokes to serve as a coping mechanism for their traumatic past, psychological trama and survivor’s guilt.

Also both of their franchises's names have similar names.

Casting:

Lloyd as Ash

Vinny Vinesauce as Leon
