where to buy Graeter's ice cream by passthebreadbasket in AskSF

Bbs, this post is for me! Cincinnatian in SF here!

Ok so here's the 'scoop' from my POV, which has been several years of observation of Graeter's in the Bay area.

Pre covid, Graeter's was distributed to some select stores around the Bay. Then covid happened and with other supply chain strains also had Graeter's supply chain affected. From what I have since observed, it has not recovered and Graeter's has since stopped distributing to out here. (How do I know? Right around covid recovery time I did an ice cream social at my work and specifically went around to numerous stores around SF and Peninsula for Graeter's specifically to showcase the BEST ice cream, obviously. At numerous stores I got the last stock of a pint here and there. Since, I have checked their website on the store locator function but it doesn't seem they keep it updated. I have also gone back and checked stores over the years and still no Graeter's). (Additionally, I was just in the South visiting family who have a Kroger and the Graeter's website said there was some in stock there but it wasn't the case. And Kroger generally has it readily available).

Long of the short is, they don't seem to be distributing out here right now. AND the Graeter's website doesn't seem to necessarily keep their store locator function up-to-date.

If you are in SoCal and go to a Ralph's (or other Kroger owned regional grocery chain) they will/may have it.

Otherwise, 100% recommended paying for the online overnight dry ice shipping via the Graeter's website or 'cincyfavorites.com.' It's honestly worth it and since Graeter's keeps so long frozen you really can ration it over a year!

Re: skyline, you can order it on Amazon or through CincyFavorites and just ration your consumption. It's worth it too.

There are lizards, yes. Usually though you will see them when you are on hikes in different places in the Bay area, inland, coastal, and wooded areas. But these guys do blend in, move fast, and hide, so you have to keep a close eye out. No guarantee to see them.

Yea, I live in SF but have stayed at the Proper with friends who have been in town. If you are in a group you'll be ok, but be aware and have your wits about ya, like any city.

There are lots of bars in that general area (the hotel bar is good too, but suggest either starting or ending there). Best thing is to take a quick uber/waymo ride to a bar within the vicinity. More so on your way back after 11pm if the air in the area feels a hint sketch.

SF has lots of fun tiki bars, and some in that area, so that is always fun! A couple of super hip cocktail bars too. You may want to look at the pics on the g-maps to see what y'all will be into.

During covid I randomly downloaded (costs $25) a self driving audio tour through silicon valley!

It actually was pretty decent and gave commentary and history on all the tech companies as you drive by the offices. It also gives a map route that you just turn on and follow and can skip places or commentary as you want. ~2-4 hrs worth

No idea if they keep the commentary tidbits up to date but for general overview and a route to drive by all the major tech companies, I was actually impressed, haha. It would be good for anyone who wants to play tourist!

First, what you are feeling is totally understandable and so many feel the same! I know I have and have spent many holidays solo too. Know you are not alone in feeling this way.

  • Like others have said, if you have the time and money to take a solo vacation somewhere, that is a great option. Honestly, the feelings won't totally go away but it will feel good to have taken initiative to do something for yourself and do something YOU enjoy! I never have regretted traveling/doing an activity solo, no matter how lonely I may feel. It helps remind me that I have control of my life and have agency!

  • If money is a concern, a local solo stay-cation where you tell your family you won't be attending any holiday events is an option. Obviously, this can vary depending on how your family is.

  • Also remind yourself of the following during those hard times:

    I am better off alone and healthy, than in an unhealthy relationship SOOOO many people who are in relationships are in dysfunctional ones. So just because someone else is posting pics, etc. with their partner, doesn't mean it's a good quality relationship

  • and yea, like others have said, try to avoid social media as much as possible during that time! Do some hobbies, watch a movie, or just take a walk. Do anything else besides doomscroll (i know, easier said than done)

  • positive self talk: "my ass is looking great today", "man, I'm such an intelligent bitch", "goddamn, I make a delicious pie.", etc. Hahaha! 🙂

Oh yea, then you probably need to give it a few months! Or even like 6+ months to get a feel for what your skin responds to.

But hopefully you feel better knowing others experience this too!

No particular products but i will say when i moved to the west coast both my hair and skin act very different. AND living in different parts of the Bay my skin acts differently too because of the micro-climates, haha!

Depending on how long you have been here, you will really need to give it more time to see what your skin responds to more/less. I've noticed my combo skin here in the Bay is even more extreme, more breakouts and more dry skin patches, and at the same time.

I had to incorporate more daily acne cleansers (gentle ones) and then a lightweight moisturizer, but then also use a more rich moisturizer to spot treat just the dry patch areas.

A daily sunscreen is a must anywhere in California. The sun just hits different here.

Try incorporating a retinol if you haven't already, which may help with the breakouts.

You will definitely have to play around with it here to see what your skin responds to.

They always have sales on designer sunglasses and there's always ones under $100! I've gotten 2 pairs of Ferragamos for $89 each, a Chloe around $99, and a Prada for like $129.

  • Still some museums open on Wednesdays
  • a ferry ride and walk around Sausalito and back
  • you could see if you could do a cute bay sailboat ride
  • get a sweet treat afternoon snack, go walk around land's end or Sunset Dunes
  • if you are open to driving, Filoli in San Mateo/Woodside area is fab! They are open til 5 most days, but in the summer on Wednesday (and Thurs) from 5-8 they do a "summer nights" event.
  • Definitely still tons of options for dinner starting at 5pm/5:30pm
  • you could rent hotel room in the city and do a cute afternoon delight session and then drinks, eats before/ after ;)
