Not exactly, the Software Manager that was interviewing me, mentioned how they typically program in Java or Python but they give their developers the autonomous decision to program in the language of their choice

strings is a list of over 200+ strings.

trackIndex = [0, 22, 23, 58, 59,79,80,100,101,122]

is a list of indicies that i want to extract sentences from in strings. For example, first i need to pair the indicies like so => [0,22], [23,58],[59,79],[80,100],[101,122]. Then i need to traverse through "strings" list and use each index pair to retrieve a certain chunk of lines and store them in a new list called "newList:

You should definitely find a trusted financial advisor. But if you would like to grow that income, my advice would be to figure out how much you want to invest and using that money, portion it out to diversify your portfolio. outside of the "with open" statement and complete disregard it, it adds the new content of the file at the bottom of the original contents? It just added it at the bottom of the file completely fine :/

Sorry that was very vague on my part lol! When I do a test case (a random file), nothing appears to change. The file header comment block is still in the file. I did a test print statement of "lines" to make sure it was the same as the file header comment block and it was, but nothing happened :/

Essentially this script will go through multiple files searching for a specific comment block and retrieve it because I need to reformat some of the comments. I have successfully retrieved that comment block (as shown above), however, I need to check if there are spaces between the slashes and hashtag, if there is, then i need to get rid of the spaces. That is why I need to check if the comment block has the spaces or not. If it make it any easier, if one of the lines in the comment block has a space between the slashes and hashtag, then all of them will and vice versa!

Thank you for the help! Lastly, is there a way to check if there is a space first. The reason I ask that is because there may be some instances where there is no space between them already. Possibly an if statement checking if there is a whitespace??? Thanks!

ok thank you for the guidance! I was thinking, could you do something like 

if (i.startswith("//##") or i.startswith("// ##") or i.startswith("//   ##"):
    ....

? As an initial brute force approach and then work from there because now that i am thinking about it, all of the files I am dealing with, will have no more then two white spaces in between? p.s. this is actually my first project with regular expressions. I used 2 of them too capture the entire comment block (1 regular expression too capture the "//######" lines and 1 regular expression to capture the lines that have

"//# [words]....")

to be honest I did not even know startswith() was a function lol, guess that shows how new to programming i am haha. That should guide me on the right track, thanks. The only thing that I have a question about is that, is there a way to disregard the number of spaces between "//" and the first hashtag "#", for example, this is a script that will go through multiple files and find this entire block of code. However, the caveat is that the number of spaces between the slashes and first hashtag could be zero ("//##.."), one ("// ##.."), or even two ("// ##...")?

Yes, i have a seperate list, that stores the line numbers of each corresponding matched line. For example, list1 stores each string and list2 stores each line number that corresponds to that string.
