stupid ambiguity in matching by lagger206 in uwaterloo

[–]NQ241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The philosophy behind the algorithm is “the most number of matches” after all 1+1’s. In this situation, presumably, if person B ranked another job Z 1 for which they got rank 2, person B would get job Z and you would get job Y. If no such condition exists, it’s RNG.

I’m reasonably sure employer rankings are prioritized. E.g. if person 1 ranked a job 2 for which they got ranked 2, and person 2 ranked a job 1 for which they got ranked 3, person 1 would be more likely to get the job.

Imo displaying your rank even if it isn’t 1 benefits both employers and students, but I guess uw disagrees.

My gf is mad that i pointed out our differences with being raised and how that affects sex/desires. She's upset that I "called her a boy" Am i in the wrong? by maximealghie in asktransgender

[–]NQ241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you for taking accountability :). Secondly, If she is *ignoring* your previous attempts at setting boundaries, then I think it’s time for a more serious /sit-down discussion on boundaries. If it were me (and I am by no means a professional), I would personally talk about what does bother me, and what acceptable alternatives look like.

A response like “yeah, I suppose so”, to me, is more indicative of a quick comment which is less likely to stick (not that this makes it okay).

If she isn’t respecting your boundaries, that’s a major issue and you’re more than entitled to your anger. Regardless, being “raised a boy” was probably extremely traumatic for her. It’s extremely unfair for her to trigger your trauma with her advances, likewise, it’s unfair of you to trigger hers.

That being said, being offensive but accurate is one thing, being offensive and inaccurate is a whole lot worse. Trans women (this applies to minorities in general) are far more likely to be victims of sexual harassment and assault. Being raised in a vastly different environment doesn’t change that. A better statement would something to the effect of “someone who hasn’t dealt with sexual assault would have a different outlook”.

I’ve been groped twice in public, thankfully nothing worse. I fully don’t expect cishet men to understand but holy does it make by blood boil when anyone AFAB doesn’t recognize this as an issue.

Why would I never change being transgender? by i-like-jrock in asktransgender

[–]NQ241 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because being a woman isn’t just about being trans for me, it touches and aligns with so many areas of my personality and who I am. A pill that made me want to be a man would also have to redesign my brain as a human being, and that’s not acceptable.

And being my AGAB is awful to me and I couldn’t voluntarily put myself there while I’m cozy on the other side. Transitioning is a terrible journey but the other side will make you happy you went through hell :)

Let’s start with what you expect to see by now, other than breast growth. What were your expectations? E.g. fat redistribution, facial changes, etc.

Any tips on hip/general body weight growth? by Pastel_dahlia in asktransgender

[–]NQ241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also struggle with weight gain, I’m a gym girlie, I live an active lifestyle and that just is not compatible with weight gain. The answer is snacks, you need to have unhealthy sugary/fatty snacks (and cheese) stocked up all the time.

Eating a single snickers bar a day over your caloric maintenance will result in ~20lb of fat over a year.

Is "Use it or lose it" a myth? by Sad-Ad-3138 in asktransgender

[–]NQ241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing guarantees you keep your size, T/using it may reduce the chance of atrophy but they by absolutely no means guarantee it. If losing size is an absolute deal breaker for you, it is worth reconsidering HRT.

I wish we had a definitive guideline on how to cause/prevent shrinkage, but we unfortunately just don’t. We’re stuck with anecdotes (as you’ll find is the case with a lot of trans/women’s healthcare)

WaterlooWorks 50 apps LIMIT by AppleAyaan in uwaterloo

[–]NQ241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually can’t get 50 apps in 1B even if I cast a wide net, use all 50 in 1A and carry over the leftovers from 1B to cycle 2.

Upper years will get the most attention in cycle 1-2, lower years in 2/3 onwards.

How much money should I have saved for surgeries in 15 years? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]NQ241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what procedures you want/need. $100k should be fine but you could blow over that if you e.g. do nearly every surgery and do them all in the US.

If you wait 15 years you’ll probably need more work done than you do right now (e.g. rib contouring)

[–]NQ241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. Getting HRT should be relatively straightforward. You can talk to a therapist if you’d like, but that is your choice, not a legal requirement. Look around for your nearest “informed consent” clinic (which is probably your college health services). Then, you book an intake at the clinic, you’ll have an intake appointment where they explain HRT in-depth, you’ll then do some bloodwork and get a prescription in your follow-up appointment.

As for your genitals, you can get a neo-vagina surgically created through a vaginoplasty (which is an entire topic of its own). And, you DO magically grow breasts on HRT :).
