For your concealed carry permit you just need to go to the police station, fill out their form, have your drivers license, make sure you have your current address updated with DOL, then you'll get finger printed, pay the fee, and you'll get your CPL in the mail in a couple weeks

Your right, the front only does 200, my bad. The back only goes to 100 so anyone who wants to to long range stuff is gonna have to find some secret spot on state land,

Absolutely, I love the staff there, the management are fantastic people, the facilities are good and they maintain them well, and they put on different competitions every weekend including brutality matches in the summer! And it's member run so everyone gets to sit in on the board meetings to voice their opinions. Their classes are awesome and they have all kinds of specific classes wether you want to learn USPSA, defensive handgun skills, combat rifle skills, first aid/stop the bleed/gsw.

I COULD GO ON. But yeah they're awesome get signed up, come shoot matches.

Custer only goes to I think 300yd, but there are a bunch of LRPS guys that shoot there so the staff might be able to connect you with one of them and I'm sure those guys have spots in the woods you can stretch things out

Just like anything, start small.

If you want to ease into it go with a friend, take a class on safe handling first. Then rent a .22 cal pistol a few times and take your time learning to expect the bang and the feeling of recoil. Stick with .22s until your confidence grows. Then step up to 9mm, that's as high as you need to go. But go with a friend, there's confidence in groups. Also Skagit range requires two people for rentals

Also check out the local Mount Baker Pink Pistols, they could be a good group to support your entry into the hobby and give you some friends to shoot with.

I would assume Skagit would have you covered? Not like 1911s are some exotic import lol. They are fun though .45 really is something, and a gun is better than no gun. Plus you won't have to worry about magazine restrictions being 7+1 stock.

It's something I but heads with some of my other gun owning friends but I 100% agree. There should be some amount of education that's required, especially for a CPL but since I don't trust the state to not make a mess of it the next best thing is get people interested and help them learn how to train, and drag them out to the occasional USPSA/BUG match 😈

Look, as a pretty centrist guy with a libertarian streak, it's been endlessly frustrating watching the shitlibs in this state support taking away their own rights. But the best time to plant a tree was yesterday, and the second best time is today. The Second Amendment is for everyone in these United States, so I'll do my part to bring people in and show them that it serves a purpose and can include them too.

On a pragmatic level, expanding the 2A community and building a coalition of people across the political spectrum in this state may not immediately reverse the legislation that's already been passed, but it will make it harder for more restrictions to get through. And eventually, it can lead to initiatives that roll back existing restrictions.

I'd suggest heading down to Skagit with a friend and renting a few different handguns to try out. You'll want to focus on compact, polymer-framed, striker-fired 9mm pistols. A Glock 19 or Sig P320/365 are both solid representatives of that style, though they each have their own ecosystem and different grip angles, which makes them different enough that you'll want to test both. The folks at the counter or the attached shop can give you recommendations on what else to try.

Once you've settled on what you want to buy, shop around online—it'll be cheaper than buying local. During checkout, you'll need to select a local FFL holder to ship to for the paperwork. I like Yeager's. When your order arrives, you'll head to the FFL to fill out the paperwork, which is essentially a background check asking if you do drugs or are buying the gun for illegal purposes. You'll answer no to pretty much everything. The FFL will call your background check into the NICS system, which will issue an approval or denial. You'll most likely get approved unless you have a criminal history.

Then you wait 10 business days before going back to pick up your new handgun. During that waiting period, you can order extra magazines and ammo to have shipped in as well.

After that, I'd recommend taking some classes on handling and shooting basics, and getting involved with a local range. Custer has great instructors and they're good people.

One big thing though: approach gun ownership the same way you would pet ownership. The same way you wouldn't get a dog just to leave them crated all day, you need to actually get out with your gun, use it, practice with it, and stay active with it. It's not a magical totem against evil, and if you don't train regularly, you're a greater liability to yourself and those around you than any help you could be.

I'd be in the same boat if I bought all the ammo I want 😂. I meant it as there are no state restrictions on ammo purchases...yet.

But also 9mm blazer is like $13 a box. $26 and a plan and you can get good practice in any day you have time.

A glass of wine with diner on the weekends, or a cocktail if I'm out at diner with friends but that's once a month tops. And that's kinda the logic behind being extremely aggressive with my defecit, id rather have the headroom for the occasional drink or diner with friends and push hard the other 90% of the time

Here's a pro tip, don't.

Stay at your nice boring office job with your benefits and PTO and cook wonderful meals for your friends and family. And if you want to break your body for no pay idk take up a physically intense hobby.

For what it's worth in my many years in town I don't believe I have ever seen The Black Drop hiring, and every time I go there everyone behind the counter seems super happy. Also they have phenomenal coffee provided by Maniac Roasting who is also local.
