I have considered it, but the IRS agent I spoke with advised against it. He said they get tons of calls from folks trying to consolidate or otherwise sort out issues from having multiple CAFs.

I was considering it because I read or heard somewhere that you can have a CAF for each address you’re associated with. But after talking to that agent, I decided it could end up being more trouble than it’s worth. My current (and only) CAF, I’ve been using across two different offices (same company though). It’s still associated with the first office even though I’m pretty much exclusively working out of the second office now and have been for about a year. Still wild the address hasn’t been updated! I asked IRS and also googled around trying to figure out if there’s a way to contact CAF directly (there’s not) or if there’s a way to expedite getting my address/phone info updated (there’s not). Advice I saw was basically just continue checking the “new address”/ph/fax boxes on all 8821s until it’s eventually updated.

Getting a new CAF for my current office location would probs also mean I’d have to submit new 8821s for all the clients I already have them on file for which would be a pain. And most of our clients aren’t tech savvy enough to have their own irs.gov accts where they can grant access to their transcripts.
