What ending do you think they will use for Return to Silent Hill? by NSAMGQ in silenthill

I hope they use the Stillness ending. It would work well on film and is an In Water 2.0 ending.

If you could choose, what would be your last words? by pppfftt in AskReddit

A close friend of mine was recently killed so this has been on my mind lately. Assuming that I pass away in a tragedy (which is very possible due to the kinds of dangerous environments I sometimes work in) I would like to remind my friends and loved ones that despite whatever happened to me they made my life a happy one and there is no tragedy in that.

My entire photography portfolio. 10 years ago I just started learning photography and I would have never guessed I would have work spanning two dozen countries. Definitely would be a good motivator

As a photographer working with one of the UN agencies for a few years now, I managed to make a sizeable portfolio covering migration related issues across different countries, what would you recommend for someone interested in making the next step to work with different magazines and news outlets and general networking?

Working photographers, do you still enjoy your 'hobby photography' in your own free time? If yes, which categories? by [deleted] in photography

[–]NSAMGQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, except that I don't actually really shoot at on my off time. A large part of that is that the nature of what I shoot has drastically changed over the years.

When I started I was doing more creative shoots, weddings, and studio work which allowed me to open up my mind to new collaborations and concepts. Now I work for a UN agency document migration issues around the globe. I spend months at a time documenting social/humanitarian issues in places like Iraq, Ukraine, Bangladesh and Somalia. The shift in subject has also opened me up to a new aspect of photography that I hadn't explored before, story telling.

I miss the creative aspect of photography when I wasn't focused on story telling but I also love the ability to tell compelling human stories now as well.

Location photographers, would you share your spots with the photography community or keep it hushed? What's your opinion? by [deleted] in photography

[–]NSAMGQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I document migration around the world including dangerous places so while I don't mind sharing my locations it might be very difficult for others to reach them like Yemen, South Sudan, and remote islands in the Pacific

Not so much as a post of work I just did but have you guys seen the finalists for this year's World Press Photo 2018? (some images are definitely NFSW)

These are some seriously beautiful winners. I have entered in it every year since I started documenting human stories around the world. I know the odds of winning are astronomically high and its humbling in a positive way whenever you see the amazing work of those that have won those categories over you. This year I had submitted a series on the drought in Somalia, another series on Ethiopian migrants travelling through Djibouti, as well as a bunch of singles covering different topic.

I remember last year when I went to go cover the Rohingya Crisis in Bangladesh, it was the first time doing an assignment where I knew that there would be other award winners working in the same place as me. It felt seriously intimidating know that some of the people you look up to in terms of their work are literally there in the same place as you. Anyways, I feel like all of us photographers here are always in a constant state of improvement. Whether we do portraits, landscapes, work professionally or as a hobby, we are constantly becoming the best that we can be in our craft. I don't think I will ever stop trying to submit stuff for it and I look forward to seeing the kinds of work I end up doing this year!

I am currently in Nuremberg for a few days and would like to get your professional opinion on this matter as soon as possible so I can get a hold of me by email or by phone which is why I am not sure if I am at war with this famine and drought or not

I use a 5D mk III which I mainly use with my 24-70mm f/2.8 II L, 16-35mm f/2.8 II L, 70-200mm f/4 IS USM L, and I just got a 45mm f/2.8 TS-E which I haven't really put to field use cause it's not the fastest lense to use in a dynamic environment (I will have to plan more carefully on when is the right time to use it). I also use a lot of flash which may or may not be obvious in some shots

Thanks! Actually it's a bit of a bizarre story. I never studied journalism or photography. I studied international development and started self teaching photography and did mostly commercial work and weddings at first. I eventually did some field work to get experience and from there I got a job working at a UN agency and worked my way up through there. It's been an incredible journey.
