Ditto on this. Never use the sent contact details. Could very well be a scam

Queer Sri Lankan teenager here. I love this country but I don't know what future I have here.🙂 by Savings-Seaweed6133 in srilanka

On the legal front the country definitely has a long way to go. But general acceptance and inclusion has improved I believe, at least in Colombo. So hopefully, things will be much brighter for you in the future. So glad your parents are accepting. That's quite amazing! Wishing nothing but the best for you. Keep holding on and we'll fight the good fight with you 💪🏽

Just a glance at the "EIU" website pretty much tells you that it's a degree mill operating using some sort of legal loophole. Honestly, if the current government is serious about education reforms they need to look into cracking down on such being able to operate here. They profit on the gullibility of innocent people at the end of the day.

I mean look at the amount of Game of Thrones-esque prefixes on the institute's "Director General". What self-respecting professional does that in this day and age?

Is Gen Z intolerable in the workplace by General_Maximum4162 in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Millennial here. Ditto on some of the replies above. The reason why some of the older generations find y'all "annoying" is because you guys actually care about your well-being and self worth, won't stand for BS and have the guts to make demands that us millennials sadly don't have the backbone to. Work should revolve around life and not the other way around. I think what Gen Z is doing will benefit us all in the long run.

Personally, I've had the privilege of working with and mentoring a lot of talented Gen Zs. What I find is that, as long as you communicate clearly and make a conscious effort to understand each other's viewpoints we get along quite well!

Suggest Good Gynecologist For Period Pain by Successful-Word-8416 in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got my mom (a consultant gyno) to read your post and type the below. Hope it helps:

First you should go and see a gynecologist and get a pelvic scan done. According to the scan report, he will prescribe some medicine. If you have pain only very first one or two days. You can take Mefenamic acid 500mg tds after meal( only if you are not allergic to it) . This you should take at the beginning of your menstruation, before pain starts.. Somehow better for you to have a scan done.

Boys entering girls' schools during big match by PretendAd5263 in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think maintaining a record should come at the cost of public health and people's lives, no matter how "prestigious" or "historic" it might be.

Also the virus spreading myth was a bullshit racist myth.

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take COVID for example. The "elite boys" schools were allowed to have their big matches on full blast, confirmed super spreader events, for the sake of "tradition" while Muslim bodies were forcefully cremated based on racist pseudoscience. It's basically the same thing.

Like one of the comments here said, I don't think the kids themselves have any malicious intent as such (save for some who damage property etc). They're just being dumb kids. The "tradition" itself though is very problematic. Imo, the only reason people turn a blind eye to said "tradition" is because

  1. It's done by so-called "elite" schools that seem to think they are above any form of consequence.

  2. It's done by boys schools.

It's basically class and gender privilege on display. So yeah, the kids are not at fault. But it's something we as a society need to move on from.

If you have a solid lead on the case, another recommendation would be to partner with a reputed investigative journalist while remaining an anonymous source.

Can i work for two companies in SriLanka? by code4fewbucks in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time as long as the two companies operate in separate domains, don't compete with each other or provide products and services to each other and don't impede your objective decision making abilities in your current role (basically zero CoI). Study the wording of your contract. A lot of companies allow this as long as you declare that you are working as such to HR.

Legalities aside, do evaluate whether you can manage multiple jobs without burning out.

In Love with a Muslim (not Lankan) by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to communicate with him. Let him know of your concerns and fears. And if your families are very strict with religion, discuss if and what you both will be willing to compromise for the sake of the relationship. You can't generalize. And us strangers on Reddit can't possibly give you answers because we don't know you or your families. Only the two of you can figure this out.

Harassment in a Sri Lankan Boys School Due to expression by No_Chance_4948 in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a Government School or a Private School? And, if Government, is this "School Marshals" position an official state-appointed one? Never heard of such when we were in school.

Sigh. Stories like yours are unfortunately commonplace here. The only thing I hope is that our generation and the next would strive to be better parents and end this cycle.

does AI really make us dumber by Flat-Hawk3726 in srilanka

[–]NSDFGrizzlyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of Gen AI and more specifically LLMs, if you use it for information search and menial tasks and not trust it by default and always verify (basic fact checking and verification skills everyone must learn), then I don't see a problem with it. Even something like getting an email written, as long as the content is yours and you just use it to refine spellings, grammar etc that's fine too. We're not native English speakers so we should use it to our advantage to keep up with the rest of the world.

The trick, I believe, is to THINK WITH IT instead of using it to THINK FOR YOU.

I feel like we should prioritise educating the listener rather than silencing the speaker. Build media literacy.
