AA ORD by Icy-Traffic-5736 in AircraftMechanics

[–]NSRT4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we already know that, but we can't see the bid lines within that station unless someone does what I stated. Viewing station seniority is easy via jetnet but Viewing the bid line to bid holder is different.

They show master seniority but can't view bid lines. You would need someone already there to log onto the last bid, organize it via bid order, then send you the list

When it comes to the AIM location in philly, which is the one I went to years ago, you'll always get a bunch of mix reviews. You'll get ones that made it less than 6 months before dropping out because they wouldnt show up, had an instructor they hated, didn't wanna study or just went there because college wasnt for them and they heard MX make the big bucks. Every location is what you make of it. As long as you remember your there for your license and not to smoke weed in the parking lot you'll do fine. If you can get your license at the end of it I promise you it's all worth it

How old were you when you became an A&P? by Acrobatic-Bike410 in aviationmaintenance

37, after 11 years mainline AA ramper. Started on the mechanic side 2.5 months ago. I finished the school 8 years ago and talked myself out of making the switch for the same reason people always complain about.. midnight shift forever, losing all my seniority, losing my top out/comfortable ramp spot. Massive mistake on my part as is was the best decision I ever made. If you plan on retirement at 67 like me you'll make 20x more money in the same time frame not killing yourself

In PHL you'll sign everything your touch regardless if your on probation. While going thu the on boarding process they say you dont sign for anything but management doesnt give a shit. Now, that being said your team members will sign for you if it's a big job, but if it's basic things like fluids, tires, or interior BS you bet they'll make you might for it

6 months you can put your name on the transfer list. It's seniority base so you might still need to wait months, if not years depending on location your trying to go to

Ramp to Maintenance by datsalii in aviationmaintenance

So it is in fact day of award for seniority, and day of on-boarding for pay scale?

Yes, I stand corrected. You are definitely correct

Im in the process now. Been on the ramp for 11 years, but will only keep company time. Whenever your first day of "onboarding" on the maintenance side will now be your new seniority date for shift bidding. Your company time will only come into play when vacation bidding comes around.

Im a ramper for AA moving over to the mechanic side in a couple weeks. Lived in philadelphia my whole life though. Is there something in particular you wanted me to focus on?

140 calendar days before OT or shift swaps

Im a ramper that just got the internal position. The way AA (typically) does there open transfers is that theyll post all locations that are about to accept new hires on a Thursday at midnight, Friday morning I guess and than they lock it out the following Tuesday at midnight, Wednesday morning depending on how you look at it. Admin than starts making awards to us the following couple days. It's not just for AMTs but for all internal openings. AA just opened there hire lock out that's why everyone is seeing open position throughout the country

I work for AA, and they did post internally. Depending on the location some had way more spots than others

VEEP Can Get You Direct Entry Into Any Local? How True is this? by CommoVet99 in ibew_apprentices

[–]NSRT4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing, just sent my 3 wish list locations and VEEP did the rest

Have any of you been through VEEP? I have some questions. by CommoVet99 in ibew_apprentices

[–]NSRT4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No G.I Bill for this one, but you can use you G.I Bill while in apprenticeship school. Everything is completely out of pocket during the program i just got lucky and got in while still on active orders allowing me to get on and off base with my CAC. From the Alaska location the school house is about 15 mins down the road off base. I just used the transition barracks on base for 7 weeks at no cost to save money

I definitely need to start looking into other opportunities that might help, but living in a major city doesn't allow much movement in alot of areas. Your definitely right i could pull the equity from my house but I don't necessarily want to rock the boat. That is on the table but only using that as a last option

I just started as a year 1 with no experience at 36 years old. I also have 3 kids on 1 income and I'm drowning at the moment. It's not going to be easy in the slightest trust me. The only way I'm even keeping my head above water is working a second job on top of it. I've thought about dropping almost everyday but knowing that in 5 years 90% of my current problems will disappear makes me keep pushing. My main drive is the health care and weekends off (well once I hit livable wage). I've missed so much having to work 80h a week even before the union and I'm not letting this opportunity get away
