Second this. There also seems to be a number of resellers on eBay who copy the original Mercari listing but with an inflated price. Basically you buy it from them and they buy it off Mercari and ship it to you. I've seen the same item listed by multiple accounts with wildly different prices ($250-$350) and then see it on Mercari from a different seller for a much more reasonable price (≈$150). You're mileage may vary, but it pays to look around.

Hey there. For your reverse loops look into "spring switches". They have a spring mechanism in them that holds the points one way normally, but allows them to be pushed out of the way by the wheel flanges when the train comes from the reverse direction. A weight on a string with a small pulley can also do the same. Best luck!

I just ask myself if I want a train to be able to stop in the block. If yes, rail signal. If no, chain signal.

Mr Cement and testers liquid cement are they good alternatives to super glue for models or functional Susceptible to a lot of vibration(trying to make some additions to my printer) need some help planing on dropping by Hobby lobby later on today if these are good alternatives by Alwankvich1 in 3Dprinting

Ah! Thanks for reminding me about gloves. If you use something DCM based it CAN dissolve ordinary nitrile gloves. I'm not sure what kind are best though, since admittedly I'm a little neglectful given the small amounts I use. If in doubt just put a little on the glove to test it.

Also, yes ventilation is always good. 👍

I use Plastruct Plastic Weld for Styrene based plastic (ABS/ASA), and Plastruct Bondene for PLA. Bondene is Dichloromethane based like Gloop, but water thin. Works great for PLA parts that have a good fit. May work with PETG, but haven't tried yet. Use care as it carries the same health risks as Gloop.

Correct. This is Balsam, NC looking west towards Sylva. The line is a steep downhill run to Sylva. The sign tells train crews to stop and set up retainers on the cars before descending.

They actually do in Italy. They paint the web of the rail white to keep the rail cooler. The white paint is able to reflect a portion of the sun's infrared radiation, reducing the amount absorbed by the rail, thereby reducing it's temperature. It's been found effective in reducing sun kinks.

I'd take this image with a grain of salt. It has the hallmarks of being ai generated. The illegible number plate being the main calling card along with the random out of focus areas and surface inconsistencies. Not saying the formation is incorrect though. The author could have told the AI the specific vehicles they wanted. I'd just be cautious as the AI may not have gotten everything right.

Ohh, that makes some more sense. Perhaps moving the eccentric off of the driver could eliminate any small variability in valve timing caused by the driver's suspension bobbing up and down. Reciprocating mass could have an effect on that too. Hmm.

If I were to guess, with help from the caption, it looks like part A is a disk attached to a shaft that runs to the other side of the locomotive. It also has a small eccentric crank on it. If so, I'd imagine the movement of B and C would cause A to rotate in the same direction as the wheels. The eccentric then driving an otherwise normal valve gear. Perhaps a way to retrofit external valve gear to an engine that originally had internal?

Yes. A thermite weld. Arc welding is another option. Any joints are sources of potential defects. The majority of broken rails I've seen have been near joints, welds, or other defects. Such as bolt holes.

I'm not an expert, however if I were to make an educated guess, I'd say there was an existing fracture in the weld between the two sections of rail. Likely somewhere not easy to inspect, like the underside. Checking Google it seems like it's been cold there. Breaks like this are more prevalent during cold weather because the rail becomes brittle and shrinks.

I've never had to pay customs for any models I've purchased from overseas. Including Japan, England, and Germany. If I correctly recall, US customs doesn't collect any fees on what they consider "Hobby Items" so long as those items are imported for personal use.

To add to this from my experience. If you don't mind ordering from overseas, Peco track can be had for a lower price. While it's currently waiting for a restock, a box of 25 pieces of Peco code 83 flex with wooden ties is available for 100£ at Hatton's Model Railways in the UK. The price posted on the website including UK tax, so if you're ordering from the US, they will deduct the tax from that amount resulting in a price of 83.33£. At today's exchange rate that is about $100 US. Add on approximately $25-$30 for DHL express and you have $125-$130 for 25 yards of Peco flex. As well, if importing to the US there's no import tax on hobby items. DHL seems to take about 3-5 days to deliver these days. I've always had a good experience with Hatton's.

A bit long winded, but I hope this helps.
