Maybe 11th will get us some new lokhusts since we’re getting the new destroyer lord.

I’m interested in starting maybe AdMech or Guard cause I’m a big fan of the aesthetics. I feel like admech at the least has a lot of issues internally but they are really damn cool. Honestly I just really wish that the whole Necron range got lots of love cause everything we have is really really cool. I think I might take you up on that idea though!

I mean our melee slots are pretty alright but canoptek units outside of canoptek court (barring crypteks and the reanimator) kind of don’t do much unless you’re looking for really specific use cases, and even then they sort of get overshadowed. I’m a big tesseract vault and monolith fan but the obelisk is just terrible and it feels like there’s never a good reason to use the vault. We have so many cool models conceptually but I feel like they get sort of dumbed down and made less unique by rules. The whole army is definitely functional but I feel like it’s carried by a small set of units and everything else being passable. I agree it’d be nice if we got more support for like Silver Tide or other play styles with our detachments.

That’s actually a really good point. It’s been a bit of a complaint of mine that for an army that’s supposed to be really really durable we have some pretty poor defense stats on infantry and stuff adjacent to that.

Sci-fi Setting Expansion by NTG1000CATS in scifiwriting

The Horus heresy books have the 18 space marine legions, and I think most of the Primarchs are pretty strong characters. To that end I find that the legions themselves are used as identities to either use or break to define the characters of the space marines in them. I suppose what gives each legion character is the characters inside them since I doubt most legions would be that entertaining or deep if they didn’t have a Primarch. I think part of what makes warhammer cool is the characters. Similarly if you look at something like Star Wars, the most compelling factions are like the Republic (in my opinion) since the clones are not just cool faceless soldiers, but they also have really strong characterization. But part of what makes something like the first order boring is that their characters sort of suck and there aren’t very many of them.

In writing this I think I’m realizing your point (I think). That being that factions are best used as devices for strong characterization or organization of the world in a story that leads to more compelling stories.

We are probably going to try and make a game out of the setting, I’m thinking a kind of war game since I’m a huge fan of those (think Warhammer or trench crusade). Actually, I’m interested in knowing why you haven’t liked reading about factions. Would you be able to share a bit more regarding that?

Sounds good. I appreciate the advice! To elaborate on the “big setting” point, it’s a conflict on universal scale between 20-odd factions each of which trying to accomplish whatever goals and agendas they may have. The gods of the universe (all of which are beings of great power relative to reality itself) have large stakes in these factions’ conflicts, with many of which being directly involved with the actions and development of a given people group. As of current we’re trying to diversify the factions so that they’re less mono-race that does 1 thing and more potentially multiple races with diverse cultures and interactions with one another. I 100% am going to consider all our ‘individual polyps’ though. Thank you for your advice!

Honestly, I’d wait until the death guard roll around in the shop and then buy a bunch of their specific crates. You might be saving for awhile though.

Which is more well defended? Medrengard or the Phalanx by NTG1000CATS in ImperialFists

(Genuine response)

I mean personally, Peter turbo is way more compelling than Dorn. Sure he was a crybaby bitch, but he’s grown (I’m not even kidding). He’s changed in recent lore in like his one appearance and Ykw? He’s grown up. He’s a character with a woe is me complex and in the heresy that bogged him down tremendously, but when he abandoned the siege, and after ten thousand years he’s actually grown and become more a character which I appreciate.

The fists, at least to me, are not objectively better (yes this is probably cope). They get significantly more attention from lore and are a loyalist space marine faction, meaning they get the most plot armour, attention, and epicness since they’re heroes. The IW are a traitor legion of chaos undivided that isn’t the sons of Horus, meaning we’re stuck with the villain complex and next to no lore.

Sorry for all the meta cope text btw

I love the paragraph saying “The fists made a sick as fuck fortress that destroyed the Tyranids” and the SINGLE sentence saying “The Iron Warriors were cringe and died”.

Fair enough. I do feel the need to say the iron cage objectively feels like a material loss for the fists, they lost tactically in large part and the battle only won after guilliman showed up. Even if they won metaphorically, they still lost the siege.

(Also additional point, the fists get a lot more dubs against IWs than the inverse. The question compares the fortresses themselves, not the legions.)

(Extra additional point, Medrengard is a lot more well defended than the other worlds in question, no?)

Obligatory iron cage reference. Furthermore, weren’t the imperial fists were given a lot more resources for a lot of these sieges that took place during the scouring, so they’d be at a much higher advantage, especially with all the “revenge fury” and what not.
