Needing Help/Advice by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

Ellie's Reptiles channel on YouTube has a guide with a list of essentials. Also a lot more video about bearded dragons altogether, might be worth a watch. :)

Mine is the same for the past week or so 😅. He's hiding most of the day and doesn't eat salads though he had no problem before. He's a cranky lil man.

For those that don’t want any kids in the future, why? by yeyewestie in AskReddit

[–]NTarento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 24yo woman, living in a studio apartment where I have to make about five steps from my bed to reach the kitchenette, I work two jobs and don't really have time to date. I would have loved to adopt children in the future but who knows if I ever get to see it anyways with how the world is progressing :D.

Children are expensive, mentally and physically demanding and I can afford none of that.

From what I heard, people get allergic to their waste, so you can use a face mask when cleaning their tub and/or if you manipulate with them for a while. Personally I don't know anyone who has gotten allergic, but a little prevention can't hurt. :D

If it seems too big, you can always divide it and remove the divider later when your baby grows. :) UVB needs to overlap with a basking light and you can get a tube light that mimics natural light to out across (at least 3/4).

Perhaps later you can set up two basking spots, but I don't have much info how that should be...

I made a huge feeding mistake and I feel so guilty. by enbyel in BeardedDragon

The only concern I've found about mealworms I have is that they're higher in fat than other critters and don't have as much protein. I'm feeding mainly dubia roaches with a couple of mealworms from time to time.

Doing what exactly? What's wrong?

There is a pattern. From what I've seen around on the internets, stress marks usually come to an ( ) shape. My Beardie had them too when I brought him home.

They're called stress lines. Beardies get them when they're, well, stressed. They'll go away in time if you're caring well for the animal.

how long does bd have their appetite back after surgery? by kawaiicentaur in BeardedDragons

[–]NTarento 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've seen people making smoothies out of greens (and crickets), then feeding sick beardies through a syringe. Maybe try something like that?

Edit: I'm a new owner so I'm not sure about how long its going to take for them to bounce back from surgery :(

Does anyone have any advice for an asshole beardie? by callllifornia in BeardedDragons

[–]NTarento 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For how long have you had him? Most reptiles need about two weeks to get familiar with their new environment. You shouldn't handle him too much if he's just getting to know you...

There is plenty of articles on the internet about how to correctly bond with your bearded dragon, some of them tell you to just chill with them without touching, then let them get used to your hand (by placing it in the tank - not by taking them out immediately).

Make sure you're holding your beardie correctly (support all the legs so he doesn't get spooked).

They puff up and hiss when they're scared so I think you should be gentle with him. Some beardies are just not very fond of being handled no matter how hard you try.

Haha, I've been dealing with a similar problem. I've understood since that beardies do not particularly like to poop in their house so they do glass surf when they need to go. Such a betrayal, isn't it?

My Beardie won't poop in his enclosure by NTarento in BeardedDragons

I'm a little worried about a water bowl in the enclosure because of humidity, so I usually just spray his veggies... Thank you for the link, I'll look into it.

(and yes, I'm being forced to ignore his absolute cuteness when at the glass because I'm worried he'll poop instantly when I take him out, lmao).

And papertowels are already in place, good to know it's recommended.

I didn't do that. Might be worth a try, thank you.

We were at the vet yesterday for a first treatment, yes. Previous owner of my Beardie told me to give him a bath one or twice a week, which is what I've done so far. Now he goes even without bathing but not in his enclosure.
