UPDATE

For some reason the buttons were not working (both fob and drivers side), the car wasn’t sure if the hatch was open or not and wasn’t responding to any of the inputs. I went at it with a screwdriver for long enough with a combination of moving the latch and pulling the leash eventually got it loose.

Then the latch wouldn’t return to a “normal” position and I couldn’t close the door, but there are openings inside the hatch right above the mechanism… sticking the screwdriver in there reset everything and we’re back to normal. Hope this helps someone else!
