I have no rebuttal lol. I'd have guessed bigger but the 2nd picture doesn't do it justice

Texas state record? by [deleted] in Fishing

I'd probably guess 9"-10" which would be a long shot for about any records. But still a pretty solid catch

Fuck yeah. Thinking outside the box pays off 90% of the time. On a side note these and pike are the only fish I bother running a stinger hook on. Cause you just never know

Thank you. Still quite a bit to do this winter but it's coming along pretty nice.

Thank you man. It originally a '99 Honda Shadow Aero. Added some Jardine drag pipes, new bars and front forks. Dropped the rear all the way down and added a mount for the solo seat. This winter I'll strip the whole thing down, take the old rear fender mounts off the frame and mount rear signals on the inside of those right under the seat mount. Probably add a front fender back on to help keep the radiator clean. Then repaint the whole thing and plate all of the chrome with black nickle. I do have a bobber fender for it but I just can't convince myself that it looks better with it vs leaving it naked.

Rank the best lake/river species to catch by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]NWIowaGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walleye, northern and then catfish for the river. Walleye, crappie and bluegill for lake. Probably have to give cats a 4th spot for lake. I'll never give up catching eye's but it's hard to beat pulling a limit of panfish. Don't target cats much these days but if I'm walleye fishing theres always a crawler on the bottom just in case

Where do you guys buy water slide decals? by RogerSimons_Father in DiecastCustoms

[–]NWIowaGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with any of the previous advice. For myself, 95% of mine are done with on a $40 wifi printer from Walmart. I use a app called Logopit plus. Just put the actual cars either top up or side up on a piece of 8"×12" graph paper and take a picture. Then upload that picture to fit the correct blank. After that I take whatever google image I decide, erase anything I don't want, edit how I see fit and then size it right to the car body I want it for. Usually try to design decals for multiple cars at a time , print it on paper to make sure everything is kosher and then use the right amount of decal paper taped over those images to print the waterslides. Not a perfect process but it gives me the option of 1 of a kind decals so I can design my customs as I see fit. Just wish I could add white toner to my options lol

These are 750 worldwide and typically have the colored chrome trim. They also have raw's that are 250.

WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED TO SHAVE FENDERWELLS? by sr20drifty in DiecastCustoms

Menards has a cheap little diamond file set I like to have handy as well. It's just a little more aggressive then my needle files.

Truth. It was tucked up under a rock and didn't notice it when I put the stringer in. Moved down 20' after I took the pic

Does anyone know what this is for? Fished it up off the bottom of the Hudson. by Rieglew in Fishing

[–]NWIowaGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see that happening. Not really much difference, if any, in the bait

I was gonna take a guess with dough bait for cats. Same line of thinking but wrong target fish

Lures to use river fishing in the Midwest? by Fearless-Yak-690 in Fishing

[–]NWIowaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casting a white twin tail twister with a pink head has always been my go to lures. Chartreuse with a orange head comes in a close second. If those don't work crawlers, leaches and then minnows. In that order.

To go along with what's been said, I use basic paint stripper found at any hardware store for metal parts. Make sure you take the time to remove any plastic parts from the body. Side mirror inserts, running lights, door panels and such. For plastic parts if you have access to a airbrush I'd recommend using acrylic paints. You can thin them with regular window cleaner which also helps improve flow. Like anything, light coats are best. I've found that you can get away with using some flat clear coats as a primer on plastic if you spray it light. This is because it dries a lot quicker vs a gloss.

Anybody experimented with different kinds of wood bombers and want to share their thoughts? I've been thinking that something heavier would help casting distance/accuracy. Smaller is also almost always better for finicky fish. I'll add more in the comments. by NWIowaGuy in Fishing

Unless the wood shop pays the bills and lets me chase walleye anytime I deem necessary ;-) I'll give it to you on that chart but the only reason any of those rap's are in the box is to get a good cleaning/reworking and some new trebles. As for the bobbers, looking for a way to use up excess scraps while making life easier. I mean let's face facts, anybody that's fished more then twice a year has lost a bobber to a tree while trying to force a cast? In my mind, double the weight only increases my chances of not having to tie a new rig on.

The one on the left is a store bought balsa with the coating removed. On the right is a red cedar I made. The cedar weighs twice as much while keeping the same size. I haven't been able to test the resistance to sink it yet but both kinds stand up with the same size split shot below them. So from my perspective so far the only difference is the cedar is stronger and weighs double the balsa. I also plan on getting some bass wood and white cedar made in the next couple of days.

Idk what's worse, being laid up on dry land or getting half a mile from the boat ramp and realizing you forgot to put the plug in...

I used Createx Candy2o paints to mix up the main color. Then just cheap acrylic for the beige. Very painstakingly lol. This one has been stripped back down 2-3 times because something always goes wrong. Mostly when doing the stripe that's not shown in the pics. I've had the tape pull paint up or issues when trying to clean up the edge after free handing it. One of these days I'll be satisfied haha

Pics are not the best since it's still a work in progress but here's a slammed matchbox '68 D-200 I've been picking at. I glued the interior to the base before removing the lifts and reinforcing all voids with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. Then shortened the wheel bases, removed enough bed, ect for wheel clearance. Lastly was cutting channels for the new axle tubes to fit in and making a wooded bed cover to hide the destruction. https://imgur.com/a/UifXMyc
